No insulator. Temperature near the hopper is around 60C if the nozzle is at 200C. This does not present a problem for feeding of pellets.

Filastruder has been run up to 300C, same or more than other designs. Lyman guessed he needed it, but was incorrect.

Is there anything Else in that assembly that Acts as an Insulator ?
I don't see how the auger could Not get hot, if there is not ?
(especially since it is Above the Heater)

You don't need an insulator in the piping, Filastruder is proof of this.

Okay, I thought the Auger-bit section would get too hot, without the Insulator !
That's what I read about other designs.
Are you maybe running at a Lower temp than they are ?
It's difficult to tell what is in that part of assembly, from pictures,
but it looks very different there, between hopper and nozzle.

You could even stain and varnish or paint for a finished look.

Some users have reported +/-0.01mm or +/-0.00mm. +/-0.02mm is more typical, though.

I can certainly see how extruding vertically , mounted on wall, would Improve Variance Also.
Letting gravity pull the correct direction.

Cooling fan is not necessary in vertical orientation because the loop is undisturbed.

Laser guide is to determine how fast to wind the spool. Keeping the loop a constant size means a constant pull force on the nozzle.

speed of Take-up spool must be perfectly Matched to speed of extrusion,
I did not think about that.
(Adding the Take-up spool really complicates the set-up
but it Also appears that addition greatly Improves the setup)
