1. Download Arduino .022
2. Download this firmware https://github.com/ozadr1an/Solidoodle- … in_v1_beta
3. Open the marlin.ino file from the folder you just downloaded.
4. Click on the configuration.h tab and make (or verify) these changes.

#define SOLIDOODLE_VERSION 3 //{SD Patch}

#ifndef MOTHERBOARD
#define MOTHERBOARD 62

#define TEMP_SENSOR_0 5    //{E3D}

#define HEATER_0_MAXTEMP 300

5. Click the Save Button
6. Under the "Tools" tab in the "Board" section choose your board (Sanguinololu or Sanguino)  If it isn't there you will need to find the hardware folder from the Marlin folders that SD posts on their website and move it into the appropriate folder of this new versions folder.
7. Choose the correct com port in the same tools tab.
8. Hit reset on the board and click upload.
When it is done it will say done uploading and that is it.
There are really good instructions on the process in the WIKI so look through them as I may have missed something.

I was going to attempt to clean out the original nozzle, but from what I'm hearing I guess I should abandon that assembly.

I'll follow the directions carefully, in the meantime I can start working on the firmware upgrade.


Not sure where to start there...I would also want to make sure that I can run hotter than 215C without that annoying auto shut down thing

Don't mess with kapton and just get a piece of glass cut at the local hardware store.  Then buy a can of Aquanet extreme hold hairspray.  Spray the bed (kapton in place or not) then stick the glass on the bed.  Spray a nice mist coat on the top of the glass and let dry.   Maybe repeat this to ensure a nice even application.  Then adjust your Z end stop to compensate for the new bed height.  I try to avoid binder clips to hold the glass, if the bed is warped the glass will be too.  With hairspray it will fill in the gaps. 
The. Heat cool cycle 3 times and the glass will stick yet be removable.

You will receive everything you need for the E3d in the kit (except for the actual mount to mount it on your printer)

You do want to follow the assembly instructions - to the letter.

You will need to update the firmware in order to get the proper temperatures with the new hotend, especially for the crucial final tightening of the nozzle.

I have an E3D v6 on my SD4 and love it.

my plan is to have multiple extrusion assemblies so that I can do better on delivery.  I'll likely get another machine at some point.

I'm a middle school science teacher and I think that ir would be cool to do a winter camp where a group of kids put together and modify a kit type printer.  I'll include the cost of the printer in the camp cost.....what parent could resist that?  At the end, the kid takes the printer home!!!

Anyways, I digress 

When I manually exrude the filament, it does everything but come out smoothly. 

doing my research and seeing what is on the extrusion assembly...I will need some supplies.  I want to review this with you.

Kapton tape (can you confirm the exact type or part number.  what width would you get?)
I see there is a sort of black/asbestos looking tape around the heater block.  I assume that is for insulation.  what is that?

what else should I have on hand for this exchange?
