This method only works if everything being printed on the same layer(s) is of the same color. With that said, I would never pay $900-$1000 for a splicing machine.

Could also just use a belt splicing kit for polyurethane belts. They aren't very expensive and do all the alignment and what not for you.

So does anyone know if you could figure out how much filament would be used up to a certain layer? This would allow you to print multicolored prints with one extruder.
