Perhaps the same can be done with pellets, dying them then drying before sending them through the Filastruder.

I am not aware if anyone has tried this yet......

Maybe they can be soaked in inkjet ink...................

It is a thick paste. I take one teaspoon per 1kg of pellets and mix them using kitchen mixer until all pellets are evenly coloured. Then I dry pellets and extrude. I like the colour very much, but sometimes it builds tiny darker speckles.
the label says: "PARADE An environmental friendly water-borne tint for paints and varnishes. Composite: water-based acrylic copolymer dispersion,micronized marble, inorganic colour pigments, water. "
I have extruded it at up to 200C and printed at up to 270 - no problems.

Yes, I have tried the ABS + acetone + pigment powder method and it works great.
After it was well mixed, I spread it out evenly on an aluminum cookie sheet and set
It out in the sun to dry completely. After drying I bent the aluminum sheet and it
all pretty much popped off in large flakes. I then dumped the flakes in an
old blender to chop into small bits. Mixed this with virgin ABS pellets and
extruded. The resulting colored filament was very nice and evenly colored.
What is nice about ABS is that you have acetone to use as a solvent which is
pretty safe to use and evaporates very fast. Other plastic resin like nylon,
acetal, etc. don't have such a good solvent to use for this method.

There are CMYK colour charts  in the images gallery go Google under 'CMYK colour combinations'. Note that the light cyan and magenta inks do not come into play with these component values. I'll have to figure out how make the numbers into syringe ml values.
