Well I managed to figure that out as well. The only thing I'am little bit worried about (maybe without a good reason?) is matching the current. I did some googling and it seems that the Minebea stepper currently in the machine is rated for 1A. If I buy something like Nema 17 that is rated for lets say 1.68A, will it still work with the stock stepper driver?

Yes it will. The current rating is just the max current you can feed the motor without damage to it. It is not the required current.

I'm thinking about converting my Da vinci 1.0 to Bowden style extruder following the design in thingiverse. I wane however keep my options open so I'd prefer to get another stepper motor for the bowden extruder. Can someone suggest a stepper motor that would work (ebay link?).
