Thanks for your help. I was probably too upset yesterday to even think about testing the home sensors with cardboard. It was a small misalignment between the left and right y-carrage. After identifying that, it was a simple matter of adjusting the difference,

But anyways just also make sure the extruder or anything else isn't in the way. When I modded my extruder the power cord got stuck behind the extruder and caused the extrude to not be able to move to the y sensor and it made that sound.

that sound you hear is the extruder trying to keep moving in the y direction so yes it seems its not hitting the sensor. I would also make sure the x axis is aligned correctly because when it homes to the x axis it does this weird shift like its not aligned properly. It looks like it bounces back or something. When it homes to the x axis it shouldn't move back, it should dock.

It does seem to be hitting the sensor though. I will try it tomorrow as my printer is at work and I already left for today. I will report what happens. I did remove and install the y-carrage while doing the e3d upgrade so maybe it is a really small misalignment between left and right y-carrage. I did check it by eye by pulling it to the front of the machine. I have also attached a small video to show whats happening. In this video I first home the x-axis (works great) and then the y-axis (you will hear the terrible noise that the engine does as it tries to keep going (I killed the power at this point)

So I converted my da vinci to e3d v6 extruder using thingiverse parts (thingiverse.com/thing:707530). Everything I have checked is working ok but when I try to home Y it just keeps going (optical end stop at the left Y-carridge does not stop it, it tries to move on - I turned it off right away). It does this regardless where the carriage is in Y direction. I suspected y-optical sensor so I replaced it with the top lid sensor but nothing changed, it still crashes with the back section of the printer. I'am running luc's repetere 0.92 (before the conversion everything was OK). I ever tried re-flashing with repetere but it did nothing to improve the situation.
