Also, noteworthy, is that XYZware never (knock on wood) crashes during the upload. My solution is to generate the *.gcocde in S3D and then print it with XYZware. If you try to use the straight S3D file, XYZware will give you a printer mismatch error. The way around this is to add a HEADER to the *.gcode file that will set XYZware on the right track. The HEADER that I use is as follows...

; machine = daVinciF10
; extruder = 1
G21 ; set units to millimeters

You can use a text editor to add these four lines at the top of the S3D gcode, then save it, load it into your XYZware and print your object.

I have a 1.1.J DaVinci XYZ printer and I have avoided uploading any recent upgrades from DaVinci. I do believe they are trying to sabotage any 3rd-party contributions.

Some of you that are having trouble with rebooting on large files, try this work-around, and let us know how it works.

You do know that a 1.0 which I assume you use based on your header cannot print with PLA. They say it can but to do so requires you to buy the newer head from their store for 100 bucks or modify the existing one as some have done.

I'm printing pla everyday.  Longest print is only like 3.5 hours but it's working fine thus far.  I have modified mine with a shroud, a heatsink I made and an additional fan with a duct mounted on the carriage. 

The reason I picked 210 was that was what the box the pla came in said, but I did try a few temperatures higher and lower with simplify and all it did was cause more problems.

Just for fun I printed a filament guide with simplify which I cancelled halfway through because it looked like a mess.  Went into xyzware and printed out and it came out great.  I don't know what the problem is but I guess I will just stick to xyzware, has crap all for options but it has worked fine for me.

If you're printing PLA 210 could be too high.  210 is what the xyz abs prints at.

XYZ's PLA is the only stuff I have seen that works at under 200. Most PLA I have ever used was between 200 and 210. Maybe 210 is too hot for black though since it will suck up more heat.

I am (was) still having problems with the reboot during upload when using Simplify3D. My observation is that for complicated files and/or large things there is a greater probability that the system will crash before the upload is complete. The \r\n business helped a little bit but I still got crashes on large files. For smaller, low-resolution (that is, fast) files the regular S3D seems to work ok.
For larger files, here is what I have to do...
1) Bring the object into the S3D program.
2) Save the gcode to an SD card or other mass storage device.
3) Modify the gcode by deleting all of the comment lines at the beginning that are delineated by a ";"
4) Add a new Header...

Have you tried adding that header to the start gcode in S3D? Just make sure nothing else is in there.

so does the stock software compensate for this when making small parts or does it just keep the feed rate down all of the time?  Do you know what the stock feedrate is?

It just prints slower all the time. There is very little intelligence in XYZware. As for speed, it is not shown but based on experience I would say low 20's..

If we are on the same page about print speed, and not non-print speed then you are printing at 30mm per second on average in SD3. You need to slow down to 20 or less for a part this small. You said it is 20mm tall so that means the body would be about 10mm in diameter. The part is staying to hot because SD3 is putting down layers too fast and deforming the still hot previous layer.
