LOL
also all pics and video clips they have shown only showed small shallow 2D items, so the press printer was never proven as a 3D printer at all. even the workbench series was shown like this.
as for the closed use, has anyone including Sam tried to print a full 7 inch sized item taking over 14 hours un-interupted with unit closed using both materials they claim it can use. and not just remove a 'good finished print' but done so without having to peel the melted down printer away to get the print out? ;^P

tell Sam to put up proof b4 selling pigs in pokes

I gave SD a very generous response time window through every channel ( facebook, twitter, direct email) and received no reply.

Thing is SD fucked up and they did it badly. Not so much a fumbling as a trainwreck. My background is in product design so i have an understanding about brining new products to market.

They marketed this as plug and play product. However it is clear from the issues we have seen that there has been ZERO end user testing. All the pictures we have seen from the factory show the printers printing with the top up. They should have done testing of the printer with the top down and had printers running continuously until failure.

evidence for this claim.

Spool holder - spool falls out when you lift the top up. Proper user testing would have shown that a screw fitting to hold the spool in place would have led to a better user experience.

Wire management- end user behaviour would have clashed with path of wires to cause a catastrophic print failure.

extruder reassembly- where to start....getting that thing reassembled is a NIGHTMARE!

what has seriously pissed me off about this whole thing though is the outright LIE we were sold.

" we are delaying the shipping due to retooling and additonal quality control" what a crock of shit

They bought in as drivers, not mechanics. The Press is sold as a "true plug and play", not a "tinkerer's delight" like the Workbench. As such, the first few Press batches are simply a fail.

The Press is close to being a great machine, but so far misses on some critical points: quality of assembly, a few glaring oopses (cables wandering into the gantry path?), and a few deeper issues (PLA support). Hopefully SD will have the resources, stamina, and honor to fix these issues in the fielded units and make the Press what it could and should be.

For those disappointed by the initial delivery of the Press, please be patient. SD is trying to transition a technolgy from early adopter/tinkerer to mainstream market. That's extraordinarily difficult, and they've fumbled it. With that transition comes a big change in product volume, overwhelming logistics and support.

SD must be very interested in fixing this, as it means the difference between fortunes and bankrupcy. Give them a little time.

I am here to voice my dissatisfaction for Solidoodle press. Firstly I have waited months to get the printer, and when I received my printer a few days ago, it didn't work as advertized. I expected it to be "plug and play" for beginner however nightmare just started.

On the first run there are very loud motor noise, after some investigation (I am not a technical person) I found one side of the y-axis rod is hanging loose, seriously I am not sure how this escape their quality check and it is impossible to be caused by shipping as the end screw is still attached to the rod. I have to open the enclosure to fix it myself.

I tried to print with the free ABS filament provided, however it won't stick onto the bed (you can't expect a beginner to know you must use tape or glue on the bed and they are also not provided). I try to use my PLA filament (not to say the pool holder can't fit but I won't blame them for that as they want to earn money by selling their own filament), but it won't extrude! I found this forum and discovered from other posts that this printer can't extrude PLA! Why it is falsely advertized?! The reason why I would use PLA only as ABS is toxin

I can't return it as it will cost me a bomb to ship back as I am from a Asia country. I don't see a reason for paying this much of money where I can get a better one from China with screen and SD card slot to run without a computer for half the price, and of course it is fully assembled although without enclosure but can extrude both PLA and ABS.

I don't think he's phishing or trolling. I think he experiencing exactly the same feelings I did when I got my printer. I've been watching the 3D printer space for a long time, and buying the Press as my first 3D printer was a relatively inexpensive way to test the waters and to have an interesting project to work on with my 4 kids. The fact that Solidoodle advertised it as "consumer friendly" and since they've already had a number of printers on the market prior to this led me to believe that it wouldn't be a terribly steep learning curve. I was mistaken.

My printer did NOT work out of the box; I've had tons of problems with the hardware and the software. There are clear design deficiencies and manufacturing deficiencies. It's pretty clear that this technology in general and this printer specifically are NOT ready for the consumer market.

In my case, I don't mind all of the tinkering, repairing and adjusting needed to get/keep this printer working, but I'll be the first to admit, I felt exactly like RadLiba did during the first couple of weeks. The fact that Solidoodle's tech support is essentially non-existent doesn't help. In fact, if this forum didn't exist, I would have been the first one to RMA my printer. I've got an outstanding support ticket open since the day I got my printer (exactly 30 days ago today) and I haven't heard one peep from them in the last two weeks.

My only advice for RadLibra is to either RMA the printer and wait another 5 years until the technology is really consumer-ready or accept that almost all of the issues he's seeing have been seen by others and jump into the "fix it yourself" mentality to get the printer working. The others on the forum have provided fixes or workarounds for almost every problem I've seen.
