IT can be entered manually just type of in the box in the top left of the z calibration screen.  After running and choosing the best line make sure to hit the "set new z offset"  button. In the bottom right.

I do that, but after entering manually and hit run it jumps back to default before running, are you using 1.1.1?

For your initial offset, can that be entered manually or did you start at 5 like at default and then worked your way down to 3.53 by re-running the process?  Did you apply hairspray when bed is cold or hot?

I have the same issue. no fix yet. watching this thread... the first few layers show the extruder stalling once in a while. then once i'm a few layers up, the extruder stops grunting and the little wheel stops turning the wrong way!

I'd love some ideas from others.

So check the clearance, or measure your first layer thickness.
