Topic: Filament question?
Where do people buy there filament? I know that they sell it on Solid Doodle and I am sure that they always recommend buying this filament, but does anyone know where I can get cheaper 1.75mm ABS filament?

Ebay but that is risky. I use Amazon usually its Really well priced and good quality.
i've gotten my last 5 spools from Amazon.
Amazon here as well, with Amazon Prime you get used to getting it within a couple days. Plus their customer service is usually really good in my experience.
I've never been disappointed with Protoparadigm filament.
Amazon all the way. I either buy JustPLA or Makerbot...I've had nothing but problems with SD filament (am I the only one??). Makerbot's filament is the bee's knees!
However, I live in Chicago and we have 2 different 3D print stores here. So if I have an emergency, I can go to either one
Thanks for all the answers! Can anyone link for the lazy?
I've had good results with Octave from Amazon

Octave filament is my goto brand when I am working with students. At home, I use a filastruder and make my own. The difference being that I can confidently work with the kids without having to watch for filament anamolies. At home, I can look for things like thin pieces, stressed filemant, etc., while trying out new designs, so the home-made stuff is cheaper and the quality of the material is good.
magic 3d abs filament is good, i like their pure filament, and the price is reasonable

I have some, actually there is a lot of suppliers, you choose the one you like, but watch out for fishy retailers
any of you filastruder guys sell filament you make? been looking for small like 1/4 roll amounts of colors not found retail yet. like military colors e.g. Olive green, army olive, light grey, navy grey (more blue grey darker) desert Tan, etc want 2-3 shades of each of the primary colors ( Purple, Blue, Green, Red, Yellow) found some but not all and none with consistent color matching every order like paint manufacturers. some customers paint to suit but others prefer pre colored depending on item use. this is why dont need full rolls plus I print mostly tiny items.
done that too. hence this thread
It depends on what filament quality you need.
If you're less worry about print quality, you can go for amazon or ebay.
If you aim for perfection, you would like to get filament with low tolerance & high consistency in every spool.
n2ri,
Our only problem would be Masterbatches in those colors. Trying to nail down the mix ratio to blend custom colors from what is commonly available to match colors like that would be a nightmare.
It is near impossible to match colors from different filament supplier. Each of them has their own mix ratio.
It would be better if the manufacturer is an expert in color pigment, so they maintain the color consistency in every spool.
If you are doing it yourself, you need to weight the pigment and record them every-time until you get your color. It is a pain. And make sure you wash your filastruder every time you change color.
