Topic: Updated Pics! - RepRapDiscount "Bulldog" Allmetal Extruder Project
Hey, I'm sure lots of us tinkerers got the email from RRD this morning, but figured I'd share it more widely.
RRD have launched a new IndieGoGo campaign to 'test the waters' on demand for a new All-Metal Extruder Assembly - i.e, all the bits not counting the Hotend itself (think Mk IV/V 'lawsy' Extruder Assemblies)
It looks quite nice, being stacked slightly differently to how the stock SD or most other common extruder setups are. Its designed to capture all 'groove mount' style hotends (aka, J-Heads, Magmas, Merlins, Prusas) and has mount pics of nearly all of them except the E3D.. which I'm 99% confident will work as well having reviewed the tolerances closely. Its also demo'ed and 'designed' more with the increasing popularity of 'perpendicular' mounted steppers.. meaning the configuration demo'ed in the video is actually on an Ord Bot (pretty sure its the same as mine, a Hadron) where you tend to usually mount the assembly 'sideways' to what we would traditionally see on a Solidoodle however it should work fine in the SD Orientation given its a tad shorter than the front-to-back size of the 'stock' extruder assembly and it also features boltholes in the place that Lawsys hotend would have them.. meaning I'm sure it could be fashioned to fit no issues. But people here often have more than one printer don't we
I've jumped in and grabbed a 'Lite' and an 'XL' version, for initial testing and curiosity. The XL Comes with a 5:1 Geared NEMA. The plan is to ship immediately on the campaign finishing, as they are all built and ready now, its more a market experiment. So if you don't want to get one *now*, they will probably be available in commercial quantities via OEM (where a lot of RRD stuff ends up ) and via the RRD Store and Ebay shops in mid-January/Feb 2014...
If you more info, the campaign is over at http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/bulld … t/x/590704 . I personally went with the Lite as I have more hotends than I should really have already, so the options of Prusa's, Magmas or Merlins didn't impress me...
Declaration: I have no affiliation, I've just bought crap loads from RRD in the past and always been happy so figure this will be a winner too. But I provide this information with no more prior knowledge about the effectiveness of the assembly than anyone else, and it'll be late December before I can comment further on the veracity of their claims
