With only 1 black spacer on each bolt, the nut on the opposing side runs out of threading before the flanges are actually tightened. I was trying to upload photos so you can see what problem i'm facing, but apparently I'm not competent enough to do so lol

Is that when using the washers as well? And you're not using a kit enclosure?

How long are the bolts you have?

Hello,

I just recieved my Filastruder and started to build it.
Now i have a question/problem:  the instructions say

Check that roughly ¼” of the feed screw sticks out of the barrel with the thrust bearing compressed.

How shuld the thrust bearing being compressed?
It's on the "wrong" side of the flange.
As I'm not an native english speaker I suppose I missunderstood something...
Could someone please help me?

Thank you and sorry for the typo's!

Compressed after assembly of steps 6-9. What you quoted is a warning for that section (steps 6 through 9).

Re: Filastruder Documentation and CAD/STL files

The bolts are approximately 3 1/8" or 8cm long. and yes that is with the washers place at both ends. There about a 1/4" of the bolt between the threading of the bolt and the flange.

Re: Filastruder Documentation and CAD/STL files

There is about a 1/4" of space between*

Thank you for your quick reply. I already thought something like that but if I put washer-flange-spacer-wood-flange the distance is too big to compress the thrust bearing. or shouldn't it be compressed through the two flanges?
(unforunately the picture in the instruction doesen't show this. You just see the wood and the "aditional" spacer)

No. Just like the instructions (and my post just a few hours ago) state, the thrust bearing is not compressed by the assembly. You compress it with your hand by pulling on the auger. Once assembled, the plastic will handle the compression as the forces are only in one direction (pushing the auger towards the motor)

Well that's no bueno, those bolts were phased out at the 1146 SN changeover. I'm not sure how you got them.

Two options:

1.) Grab (4) 1/4"-20, 2.5" bolts from the hardware store.
2.) Grab a pack of 1/4" washers from the hardware store, and install them under the nuts to make up the difference.

I'm happy to compensate for either of the above options, or I can send you some if you don't have a hardware store nearby.

Ok, thank you!
I'm sorry, I've understood the other question wrong and the ¼”-thing confused me.. (Maybe some better pictures in the instructions would help, at least for people like me.)

Re: Filastruder Documentation and CAD/STL files

Well, sadly that is not the only problem i'm facing with this kit.
The holes on the piece of wood which support the flanges appear to have not been drilled straight. This slight misalignment will not allow one of the bolts to fit properly. By and chance do you have a CAD file of the wooden support?

I'm not sure how they could have not been drilled straight, they were drilled on a drill press. You can drill them out if needed, though.

261

Re: Filastruder Documentation and CAD/STL files

Straight was not the correct word, I was trying to say the holes were not symmetrical.
Is there any problem with using a 3D printed part as opposed to making a new one?

262

Re: Filastruder Documentation and CAD/STL files

Not sure that a 3D printed part would stand up to the torque, I've never tried. I'm happy to send you a tested support if aren't comfortable reshaping the existing holes.

That would be great actually, I really appreciate all the help and support.

No problem, contact me through the contact page on the Filastruder site.

Re: Filastruder Documentation and CAD/STL files

Are there technical drawings anywhere for the two wooden pieces that hold the flange and motor respectively?

266

Re: Filastruder Documentation and CAD/STL files

Yes, included in the documentation download (so you should already have it).

267

Re: Filastruder Documentation and CAD/STL files

I saw like for placement on the wood, but if I needed to recut them from a CNC.  I didn't see that part.

Gotcha, here's a couple DXFs.

Same file smile  I'd also like the one for the pipe flange side

Re: Filastruder Documentation and CAD/STL files

Is there not a video with a step by step on how to assemble the filastruder ?

273

Re: Filastruder Documentation and CAD/STL files

There is no assembly video, just an assembly PDF linked in the first post.

Let me know if you have questions!

Re: Filastruder Documentation and CAD/STL files

Hi, I just received the kit and so I'm here with my questions big_smile
First of all I'm not english mother tongue, so some questions will be because of my insecurity in the meaning of sentences in the assembly manual.

"Grind lips of pipe nipple/barrel (at each end) until there is no ridge left on inside of nipple"
What is the meaning of RIDGE here?
Is that the small ridge you can see in pic IMG_4169s.jpg ?
But in this case, I can't see anything similar in the nipples (always thought nipple means something else lol).
Maybe it would help to know the purpose of this polishing action?

"Deburr nipple cutout with file, dremel, or deburring tool"
What is the "cutout"?

Also, free picture of my cats lol.

Re: Filastruder Documentation and CAD/STL files

Another question: I see the main base is missing.
How long should it be?
