Topic: DaVinci 1.0A Bed Replacment

So my glass was warped on my DaVinci 1.0.. I know there’s a lot of easy options like just getting a piece of glass cut and putting it on top of the current glass, there’s tons of options to fixing the OEM bed but I personally hate the entire XYZ bed and it’s setup so after shoving coins and other types of spacers under my glass to try and level it out I had enough and decided to upgrade it completely..

Here are the items I ordered so far:

-220mm x 220mm Borosilicate Glass and MK3 Aluminum Heated Bed DIY Kit Bundle
http://soliforum.com/i/?9aom2YL.jpg

-[Gulfcoast Robotics] V2 Aluminum Y Carriage Plate Upgrade for Prusa i3 Style 3D Printer
http://soliforum.com/i/?XVrXdzn.jpg

-WINSINN Leveling Spring Component - M3 Screw Knob - for 3D Printer Hot Bed/Platform (Pack of 4set)
http://soliforum.com/i/?bTMnCIx.jpg

So far I have taken the XYZ glass off removed all the wiring from the original glass.. removed the original springs and leveling knobs which then allowed the bed housing frame thingy to be removed from the printer. The stock carriage that the glass bed attaches to is not level by any means.. (mine wasn’t atleast) There were four holes in the carriage originally so I took advantage of those holes and added four M3 standoffs at first I tried using four of the same length but after doing so I checked from side to side with a level and found the left and right side to be uneven by a few mm.. I removed the two left side standoffs, replaced them with two 8mm long m3 stand offs after removing a slight amount of plastic from the recessed plastic where the hole was located. This made the level from side to side about dead on.. (two 10mmx3mm stand offs on the left side with slight trimming of the plastic recess, and two 8mmx3mm stand offs on the right side.)

I will not have my parts I ordered until Wednesday afternoon, but I wanted to throw this thread out there and maybe get some feedback/recommendations/concerns.. whatever it may be. I will update the thread once things arrive and I move forward.

And it is up and printing!! Never had the bed level out this well it is so nice!!! first layer on the first print ever looks perfect!!!

By far the best upgrade to the printer in terms as mechanical parts I think.. Atleast so far with what I’ve seen first hand. Stabilizing everything with better mounts, bearing mounts, the Azteeg board and the e3d v6 hot end along with this bed upgrade.. so happy with how this printer works now. I know I’m probably over reacting as this is my only printer I’ve ever owned or used but it’s really come a long way in terms as print quality and functioning better.

I hope this helps someone out there or inspires someone to do the bed swap. If you have any questions feel free to ask, email is probably best. [email protected]

Re: DaVinci 1.0A Bed Replacment

If you are still using the stock supply you may have issues with that bed as it's current draw is going to be much higher than that flimsy piece of film that the machine originally had. That type of bed can draw a good amount of current while heating.

If you want to know what it draws then just use ohms law and measure the resistance across the bed and divide the voltage by that resistance. That will be the initial current draw. It will go down some as it gets hotter.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!

Hey Carl! How you been?!, I will look into what it pulls, I’m worried about the power supply
Also but somehow it’s still chugging along, I’m into my first print now. Printing some cable chain mounts.

Doing well. Getting ready to install a new x carriage, extruder, and X5 GT on my machine.

Awesome! I was hoping to hear from you when you started doing all of the work.

I know we already went over this before but what would be a good option for a good power supply, I’m not worrying about it fitting into the original housing as I have trashed all the plastics. I want to have more then enough than I need but not completely overboard.

Re: DaVinci 1.0A Bed Replacment

I am running my second stock bed on my XYZ 1.0Ais and that has a small clamshell chip in the centre now, so I may well be tempted to follow your lead with this upgrade, what sort of cost does this come in at? as the new beds come in at 60 euros over here in the uk. That said they are an easy swap over, if the costs are comparable I would happily upgrade to a bed where the glass doesnt chip and break at the first chance it gets.
in my experience the glass bed chips where you have a large base area with a substantial thickness of structure above it, then the abs holds the heat in and the bed cools at a differential rate, causing it to clamshell.

I would just go with this one. It will give you another 100 watts of power and the price is not bad. Of course you v=can also go for more if you want. The existing supply is like 220 watts so you would want to get more than that and you can't have too much as the machine will only consume what it needs. You just need a PSU that can meet that need. All you are interested in is 12 volts. So even the common brick supplies would work as well.

I did the upgrade for about 60 dollars not sure what that is in euros but you could do it even a little cheaper buying the parts somewhere other than amazon.. I am impatient and paid a little extra on amazon to receive them quicker.

In my opinion, the plastics case, and the frame is the best part of Da Vinci 1.0 series printer for the price, everything else is problematic (not on my hand but I heard lots of complains).

Should be a few days. I am waiting for the replacement X5 GT to arrive. I was supposed to get one with screw down terminals but got one with standard pin terminals instead. So he had to wait for new stock and just sent one Thursday bu 3 day select mail. So should get it tomorrow or Monday.
