Topic: Scanning advice requested

Is an item like the one in the below photo (280Z door eschutcheon) a reasonable candidate for scanning? A friend asked me to try scanning his broken one so I could print him a replacement and so far I am having no luck getting a good scan. I'm thinking that the geometry combined with my poor skills are making this not worth the effort. I've tried painting the original flat white, doing scans in multiple angles and combining stls to cover hidden areas but the final renderings look horrendous.http://soliforum.com/i/?RN2TgTM.jpg

The hollow area will never be captured correctly. To the scanner it will be more or less solid. You would be better off reproducing it from scratch in CAD.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!
