Topic: HW-Upgrading DaVinci Junior

Hi,

I have the first version of the DaVinci Junior (non-wifi) and now the print-head is broken. The filament isn't coming through the nozzle but out the sides - I've talked to my local seller and they are looking at it (I think). So, my options appears to be either repair or buy a new head - or, I was thinking: 3rd party upgrade ?

Are there any 3rd party printhead upgrade kits available for the DaVinci jr ? I am not afraid of soldering and flashing boards - or installing new hardware, but i would prefer a "clean" replacement (as in: the original software doesn't know)

Thanks in advance.

xoxo

@ChunkLady - You can replace it with E3D's V6 or Lite6 hotend
http://e3d-online.com/Lite6-1.75mm-Bowden
http://e3d-online.com/E3D-v6/Full-Kit/v … sal-Bowden
(Lite6 is PTFE lined so max temperature 245c, V6 - AllMetal one so 300c+)

You need to print one of these to mount E3D

Are you able to print anything? Aka is it leaking but still prints?!
If it does prints then you can print temporary mount and when E3D is mounted print proper one. If it's underextruding due to the leaking just increase flow rate to compensate.
Or maybe someone can print it for you either from here or 3DHubs.

Re: HW-Upgrading DaVinci Junior

kr15_uk thanks for the info!

I think this is exactly what i was looking for - and a really cheap solution, compared to buying a whole new printerhead (99 Euros).

At the moment I can print nothing, but Im in a friendly local 3d printing facebook-group so I hope they can be of assistance!

Are there any other awesome mods like this? Are there, by any chance, a hack-thread for the junior, gathering all the hacks?

Do you by any chance know of any replacement-guides for the E3D ?

Re: HW-Upgrading DaVinci Junior

@ChunkLady
1. If you have v2.2.4 or older firmware you can use hacked NFC tags and open the doors to 3rd party filament world including different materials. (if on v2.2.6 you can downgrade to v2.2.4. If v2.2.7+ than no chance of hacked NFC tags)
2. You can upgrade your electronics to RAMPS board - very good post here http://www.soliforum.com/topic/15273/ho … -ramps-14/
3. You can use Cura slicer for more advanced slicer settings - http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1915076
4. If you use external spool holder one like this http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1461527 you can print fancy (in my opinion) NFC reader enclosure http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1876514

And just read up on this forum...

Re: HW-Upgrading DaVinci Junior

@ChunkLady - It's very simple to be honest. 1st you assemble 3part E3D hotend. Screw in heater cartridge and thermistor. Wire both to Jr electronics board as the old ones and pretty much it.
