Topic: Solidoodle 3: not printing in center anymore

Hello,

Last week I updated Slic3r to the most current version and now I have a printing problem in regard where the printing is happening. Before I was able to print in the center of the bed, now it's printing in the corner (see attached image).http://soliforum.com/i/?ON1eBv6.png

When I home the extruder it goes to location A (as it is supposed to), but when I start printing it prints at location C, and when it finishes printing the extruder rests at location D.

It should start at location A, print at location B (center of bed), and rests at Location A.

Can anyone help me please? My printer's bed size is 8"x8" (or 200mm x 200mm).

As soon as I have a chance I will post an image of the Printer Settings in Slic3r, may be someone can shed some light on what I am doing wrong, and what settings I need to change.

Thank you very much!

Re: Solidoodle 3: not printing in center anymore

looks like you have not migrated you settings.
sometimes your old settings transfer automatically sometimes seems like they do not.

As soon as I have a chance I will post an image of the Printer Settings in Slic3r

That would help us help you.

Re: Solidoodle 3: not printing in center anymore

I thought Solidoodles used negative positions for home?

Thank you! I will try this as soon as I go home smile

Re: Solidoodle 3: not printing in center anymore

I changed the setting but nothing changed. Bed left and front are 0 now but the printer still prints in the same location following the same pattern.

Re: Solidoodle 3: not printing in center anymore

are you using slic3r? under printer tab click bed shape. is that set correctly?

Re: Solidoodle 3: not printing in center anymore

This needs to match what you have set in Repetier Host (this is Slc3r version 1.2.9)

Re: Solidoodle 3: not printing in center anymore

It's hard to test the printer because the printer keeps waiting for the bed and extruder to reach the set temperatures before it starts. It's delaying me a lot and causing me a lot of pain. How do I stop the printer from waiting for the "right" temperature before it starts? I didn't do this before I updated Slic3r to the latest version; before it started whenever I clicked "Start Print" regardless of the temperature reading. Is there a setting to disable this? Thanks.

Re: Solidoodle 3: not printing in center anymore

Check your start gcode script in the slicer

Re: Solidoodle 3: not printing in center anymore

Start G-code:

G28 ; home all axes
G1 Z5 F5000 ; lift nozzle

Re: Solidoodle 3: not printing in center anymore

do you have temperatures set in the filament tab in Slic3r? if you do, get rid of them. Set the temps manually in RH.

Re: Solidoodle 3: not printing in center anymore

Thanks. That solved the temperature problem. But the printer still prints in the wrong location (not center)--see initial posting all the way up.

Re: Solidoodle 3: not printing in center anymore

It looks like the Park position of the extruder is position D (see image above). Even though in the printer setting the Park position is 0,0,0!

19

Re: Solidoodle 3: not printing in center anymore

Set Park Position to X = 200, Y = 200 (Z can be left at 0, it will usually stay where ever it is when a print is finished)

When you home all, where does the extruder end up? It should be in the right rear corner when looking at it from the top down.

Re: Solidoodle 3: not printing in center anymore

I did that, and the park position is now the home position (0,0), or like you said right rear corner (looking at it from the top down).

But the print was in the same wrong place (point C on the image of the OP).

I want to reload the firmware for the Solidoodle 3 because I think all the problems started when I "updated" it to the latest firmware. I wonder if it was a Solidoodle 2 firmware that is posted mistakenly as a Solidoodle 3 firmware. The reason I am saying this because it looks like the printer is reading a smaller bed size.

May be this is the problem?

I'm the proud new owner of an SD3, using RH on Linux. As apparently mono's serial port implementation is a little broken, I had to change the speed of the serial port, both in RH and on the firmware, which resulted in me uploading Marlin for S2 so I could print. I had this same problem, but tonight discovered that you could change the following define values in Configuration.h to make it more sensible.

//#define X_HOME_POS 159
//#define Y_HOME_POS 150

#define X_HOME_POS 205
#define Y_HOME_POS 205

I'm not a lawyer, but isn't there also some issue with distributing binaries of GPLed software (Marlin) without also making the source available? (Assuming Marlin is the firmware distributed with S3)

Re: Solidoodle 3: not printing in center anymore

The version of Marlin that came with the SD2&3&4 was the same just select SD2 or SD3 in configuration.h.  To date the best performing widely distributed version of Marlin came from a user right here on this forum.  https://github.com/ozadr1an/Solidoodle- … in_v1_beta
This can also be found in the WIKI. http://www.soliwiki.com/Updating_Solido … are_upload
Follow the instructions for your particular machine, in this case select the proper board and SD3.  This will automatically set the dimensions in the firmware to work on an SD3.

Home position on a Solidoodle is not 0,0 - it should be 200,200 (max values, not min) for an SD3 or 4

but yes, it may be defined wrong in the firmware as shown in the post you copied.

Also works well with an SD4 (select the SD3 option)  wink
