Topic: Establish local area network

Is it possible to connect the atlas 3d direct to a computer with a ethernet cable? I've been unable to get an IP address. Wireless still works but I'm going somewhere where I won't have access to a router or wireless connection.

Try  either a crossover cable or an Internet switch  box.

I've tried a crossover cable and still no IP address. I've read something at needing to configure a static IP, but didn't find any details.

Re: Establish local area network

you should be getting a link-local ip address in the 169.254.*.* range if you're connecting directly...
This ip address will change randomly, so it's  best to set up a static ip that wont collide with your other networks, eg 192.168.15.1 on your pc, and 192.168.15.2 on the pi, with a netmask of 255.255.255.0 and gateway of 192.168.15.1 on both devices.

You shouldn't need a crossover cable unless your computer is pre-2005, all current ethernet ports have auto mdi-x.
