Re: The Warhammer 40,000 obsession gets worse... FINALLY FINISHED !

Here it is, mostly assembled (about 85%).  I also started painting it.  The main body and the legs were painted in gun metal grey, and so far, the left side has been weathered and some of the plumbing was done.  A long ways to go, but it's a start.

What is the overall height when assembled?  How much do you think it weighs?

That is awesome!

Re: The Warhammer 40,000 obsession gets worse... FINALLY FINISHED !

Here is another update:

Last night I started putting the decal sheet together.  It has many elements and some are white, silver and gold leaf.  Of r this I will be using my Alps 1300 dry transfer printer, which I haven't used in about 4 years.  For those not familiar with this machine, it uses ribbons of dry ink and thermally transfers the ink to paper, or in this particular case, water slide decal paper.

The inks are opaque, and waterproof.  It is the only printer that can print white as well as metallic colors.  Unfortunately it was discontinued about 10-12 years ago, and supplies are getting very scarce and very expensive, but it can do things no other printer can.

Here is the decal sheet and how the elements will look on the model:

Re: The Warhammer 40,000 obsession gets worse... FINALLY FINISHED !

The decals gave me a bit of a problem, as some were not exactly sharp (what looks good as a texture, doesn't always print sharp at 600 dpi).  But after redoing some of the drawings and doing all the spot color separations, here it is:

Re: The Warhammer 40,000 obsession gets worse... FINALLY FINISHED !

After nearly 9 months of work, countless parts, failed parts, modified, parts and 2 liters of resin, it's finally done.

Introducing The Imperial Knight Errant:  Wayward Of House Pirvan, also know to DragonLance fans, as Sir Pirvan the Wayward.

There will eventually be a small diorama, with some battle debris and a couple of Space marines, but that's later down the road.  For now I need to take a break from this and work on other projects.

Re: The Warhammer 40,000 obsession gets worse... FINALLY FINISHED !

So I bought a display case.  After looking around, I settled on a football display case.  It's got an octagonal wood base with mirror at the bottom, and all glass sides, except for the back 3 planes which are mirror as well.

It looks pretty good, except the seams between the glass panes are a bit distracting.

Anyway,  I added a couple Ultramarines to keep him company, and a bit of terrain, grass, rock, lichens to complete the diorama.

Here it is what it looks like under the glass dome.

Now that’s a kick ass paint job. Its not just the paint job, the whole project is pretty sweet. I myself found the model https://www.treatstock.com/3d-printable … shi-mk-iii from "Mechs" universe but will try to paint it in Ultramarine style.

Can you download the model, or is the only option to have someone print it for you?

BTW, that mech is not a Warhammer mech.  If you're looking for Warhammer models, there are some available on line.  Some are decent, some no so much, and then there are some that are super detailed, but cost quite a bit of money.

I for one, started by downloading some of those, but found I wanted to have more control of the details, poses, etc. so I started doing my own.

For the larger mecha I modeled my own based on the actual Warhammer model like the one above.

For the marines I got access to some low-res models extracted from games like WH40K:Space Marine.  These models are fully rigged (posable), and look good because of detailed textures, but the actual geometry is pretty basic, so I first pose it like I want it, then export it as an STL, and use MeshMixer to smooth it and add details.

Re: The Warhammer 40,000 obsession gets worse... FINALLY FINISHED !

The only way to get the model from the site is to place an order with their services.

could you recommend me 3D printable Warhammer models and hook me up with a link so I can get them?

Here is the final piece to the Imperial knight diorama.  This came about as a test print using a new resin, and unlike the other 2 Ultramarines, this is a Blood Raven Captain.

These look beautiful! I know I'm late to the party but wonderful work, just the kind of thing I'd love to ram with a battlewagon!

How well do the form1 resins take paint? I was curious but it doesn't seem like you had way too much trouble.

Re: The Warhammer 40,000 obsession gets worse... FINALLY FINISHED !

Just about any kind of paint works with the resin.  For the Imperial knight I used a combination of Testors enamel and Tamiya acrylic paints.  The marines are basically Tamiya all they way through.

I've also used Citadel paints on other models, also with good results.

The trick is to make sure the model is dry and free of uncured resin.  for best results I usually let the model dry and cure for a few days before I attempt to paint it.
