Topic: Filament splicer

Decided to make a filament splicing block. I have a couple heater cartridges and thermistors laying around. Started milling the block today.http://soliforum.com/i/?EbNIGrS.jpg

Now that's a cool idea. How well does it work?

There are actually quite a few products that do this. I shared a link for a splicer some time ago...I don't recall the name, but the company was based out of Spain and sold out for the longest time. Anywho...
Let's not take anything away from kronik's project. There are many ways this can be done, and these hasn't been much discussion on splicers/fusers.

OP keep us posted!

Printit Mason and Printit Horizon printers
Multiple SD2s- Bulldog XL, E3D v5/v6/Lite6, Volcano, Hobb Goblin, Titan, .9 motor, Lawsy carriages, direct Y drive, fishing line...the list goes on
Filawinder and Filastruder #1870.....worth every penny!

Re: Filament splicer

well this version alomst worked. They connected but since the filament guide hole is solid I have to wait fo it to cool down and pull all the filament through it. So now Im working on a new design thatll be split so I can remove the filament when it splices

Re: Filament splicer

I'm wondering if you might want to make a slide that can be removed after its done being welded. I could see the plastic forming way out of shape with a void to fill in the slot.

Re: Filament splicer

My next design is going to be similar to the last. I'm going to have two pieces that fit together tightly to form the filament guide. Two half circles that close up tight. I have 2 ideas about how to go about making it. I'm going to mill one set and I'm gonna try to use a wire edm to cut the last one

Re: Filament splicer

Good idea. Yes, there are many designs tried with various methods. I have a design as well that I am looking for others to evaluate, suggest or even develop further if it is a viable design.

The Splicer design is mentioned in the group "3D Think Tank" on the http://3dprintboard.com/ website. The site is devoted to helping others in their design, process or creative efforts.
