Topic: Non-warping, no smell, PET filament

No shrinking or warping.
No smell.
No enclosure required.
Build plate can be heated or not (depends on brand).
Can be printed on glass without any glue*
Does not absorb water or moisture from air, so no storage container needed.
Clear color is the most transparent of all filament materials.
Is much "tougher" that PLA or ABS; will bend before breaking.
Uses about the same extruder temps as ABS.
Does not need a print cooling fan like PLA does.
Also known as Polyester, PETG, PETT, PET+
Is what most soda pop bottles are made of.
Does not degrade in water.
FDA approved in the USA for for food contact.
Not brittle.
Is the most recycled plastic.
Prices are coming down, and some are about the same as ABS.

Thanks for the hard work you put into this ready reference.

Re: Non-warping, no smell, PET filament

just because you cant smell it dont mean its not making toxic fumes. lots of things like that kill people

Solidoodle 2 with Deluxe kit cover & glass bed with heater. and 2nd board SD2 used not 3rd and alum platform not installed yet still wood. also need cooling fan installed to board. use Repetier Host couple vers. Slic3r also have all free ware STL programs

True but that is a different concern.

Actually the toxins that can be released through use should be the first and most deciding factor when choosing a material to work with. This is especially true for printing filaments since many of us myself included print inside our homes with the windows closed due to it being too hot or too cold outside. Living in an apartment does not give much options in venting either.

So at the very least the material should not release any harmful vapors under normal use. PLA is such a material as is PET+. The later does give of fumes that MAY irritate some throats but it is not considered harmful or dangerous unless burned in an open flame. PLA will also be dangerous in an open flame but not under normal use.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!

the normal PET used in soda bottles has been warned even on this site b4 about its dangers and why its for industrial use. PET+ may be different.

Re: Non-warping, no smell, PET filament

The one link i cliked was for PETG, does this one release toxins?

Re: Non-warping, no smell, PET filament

I also am a recent convert to PETG. It gives a better print quality than ABS and is more durable than PLA. I use Simplify3D which can slow down the print speed by region of your part to get fine detail allllmost as sharp as SLS (powder laser) prints. I'm pretty impressed with it.

I warm the bed to 85C and set my extruder as 245, print speed at 3000 mm/min.
