la times takes a look at solidoodle
I was interviewed by an editor at LA Times for a 3d printer story but this is not the same guy, he saw something I put on thingiverse and emailed me a list of questions to answer. Been waiting to see that story come out.
Doesn't sound like a glowing endorsement for SD2 but at least he was happy in the end.
They really need to get rid of the Pronterface/Skeinforge combo in the software section and replace it with the official Repetier, which is still buried in the blog. The problems so many Mac users keep having with Python, Arduino etc are mostly solved with RH, but new users will never know about it unless they have been here first. There's not much Solidoodle can do about Sketchup, but at least new Mac users shouldn't still be having the same problems they've had since Sept.

This is killing them. Couldn't agree more.

Erm. We're working on it. However (to our great frustration) repetier seems to have a hard time installing on the Mac as well. The repetier mac port is a bit of a kludge, and it the installation seems to fail semi-randomly. I've already had to help several customers with this. Ultimately mac support is very difficult no matter what software we use. It's an easy platform to do command line stuff with, but I've seen a lot of troubles getting decent open source gui programs going.
As for the installer being on our blog, we've already put it at the top of our installation section. Again, we don't have a Mac installer for the Solidoodle profile, and it might be some time before we can toss that together. Developing such installers for the Macintosh is much more time / resource consuming.
I run a Mac and I read that with the SD3 they suggest Repetier, so that's what I installed. For modeling if I want a free one I would use 123Design by Autodesk, they have a Windows, OSX, iOS, and web version, exports to STL. I actually have a very expensive 3d app I use for modeling and animation, but might do most of my modeling on 123Design because I can do it on my iPad when on the move.

Nice idea!
