Topic: new fimware 1.2.6

Todey xyzprinting send me email :

"Dear XYZprinting customers,
If your 3D printer model is da Vinci 1.0, please check the firmware version of your printer and update it to version 1.2.6 via XYZware before 4/30/2015.
Thank you,
XYZprinting"

Does anyone have already installed the fimware , and why only to 4/30/2015 ?
or install the fimware not block completely the possibility of using other materials or be blocked or not reset and the possibility of installing a lower fimware

Re: new fimware 1.2.6

I received the same email today.

I think they are trying to make users upgrade to prevent hacks and mods.

I use rep.92 so I am ignoring this, but I wonder what will happen after 4/30 for those who don't upgrade.

I received the same one as well. Sounds almost like an ultimatum.

Win 8.1
Improved Da Vinci 1.0 with Firmware 1.2.5 and stock extruder
Arduino cartridge resetter and after-market ABS filament
TinkerCAD, Netfabb, Simplify3D

Re: new fimware 1.2.6

i've been running 1.2.6 for a couple of weeks now without incident. it appears to be no better and no worse than any other version of their firmware. i block xyzware from communicating with the mother ship and am able to user a resetter without difficulty. perhaps what sounds like an ultimatum is simply result of the letter being written by someone who is not particularly skilled at english. On the other hand, xyz doesn't have a good reputation... so I've got older releases of firmware and xyzware to back  down to if problems arise.

Re: new fimware 1.2.6

I'm running 1.2.5 and without XYZware installed, I can't update now anyway.

I'll stay with what I got, it works and my resetter works just fine too big_smile

Re: new fimware 1.2.6

I think it sounds like an ultimatum because absolutely no context is added. "Please upgrade to this before that date." Why? The lack of any context alone makes it sound like it's not in your best interests to do so, or at least to be wary.

Then again maybe the truth is worse. "Update by then or we will annex your printer in the name of our alien overlords once they start taking over 5/1/2015."

Re: new fimware 1.2.6

Been running 1.2.6 for two months without problems.
No cartridge/filament problems (using Zerocart).
No nagging updates or threat messages (completely deleted XYZ software - no longer need to block net).
No problems using gcode (though I no longer need to, now that I use Simplify).

Mac OSX ElCapitan
Prusa i3 (two built from kits), 1 hacked DaVinci
Solidworks for models, Netfabb to repair, Repetier/Slic3r and Simplify3D

This made me laugh.  I got the same message, however I have the 1.0A.  A little context sure would be helpful.  Perhaps something lost in translation.
