Topic: Clicking noise from brand new Press?

Hi guys,

I am doing my second print on my new Press, and it makes a wierd clicking noise - check the video: https://www.dropbox.com/s/szebwyqjihj0i … 2.mov?dl=0

Does anyone know where this comes from?

That sounds like the dreaded knock of death to me. If it is, it means the wheel is grinding against the filament instead of feeding it through the nozzle. Turn the extruder fan around so it blows air into the extruder instead of pulling it through it and see if that helps.

I have the same problem, until today. The printings have small holes in it, due to the fact that extruder skips steps. I removed the mainboard from the printer (caaaaaaarefully do this, AND ON YOUR OWN RISK), then I added a small fan who blows air exactly on the driver of the Extruder. No thumps after. I will post shortly a video fo show you this.

Oh, I actually had the same problem with my old RepRap (stepper driver over heating) - I just thought that Solidoodle had made sure that their thermal design was stable sad ..

It would be very nice with a tutorial, would appreciate that very much smile

Thanks Madfolcon81 !!..

I solved the problem - turned out I had to adjust the Trimpots like discribed here: http://support.solidoodle.com/hc/en-us/ … Adjustment

My Extruder and Z-axis was way off and at almost 3V both (had to be 1.5V). This made my prints A LOT better, and it got rid of the clicking sound smile

Mine doesnt move over 1.13 V each. But it does the work. The problem was (and still is) the overheating of the mainboard. I printed some "feet" for Press, so it stays in the air, with the mainboard OUTSIDE fo the printer and that fan over. Absolutely no skips since then.

You have to turn the printer ON before measuring - it is not enough to just have the power plugged in.
