Re: FilaWinder Documentation

Do the buttons and knob control the servo as they should otherwise?  Check that the buttons are plugged in to the correct headers on the control board.  If they are reversed, the left limit will be set further right than the right limit, which confuses it.

Re: FilaWinder Documentation

That was it, I figured it out right after I posted, Apparently your instructions meant my other left and other right.....Duh.

Thank A lot !!

Re: FilaWinder Documentation

Filawinder working really good for 3mm filament.

One thing I did wrong was cut that I cut the 6mm PTFE as per instructions, now, it is a bit short. I am sure that the instructions meant to put the PTFE in the guide holes, and only cut the 4MM PTFE.

It sort of looks to me that in order to spool a full spoon on the narrow large spools, that the guide and intake plate ?

Also, as a suggestion, it seems to me that if you count rotations, and know the empty inside diameter, and the width of the spool, and filament diameter that a good approximation of length could be made, perhaps some sort of display could be made to work with the Nano?

Thanks for the great product !

Rich

Re: FilaWinder Documentation

After Running the filawinder, the nut that holds the spool in place keeps loosening itself, and it seems to me that if the winder was assembled with the main mounting plate in reverse, everything would be flipped around, and the motor would be on the left, hence, the nut would then be tightening itself.............Might be a thing to consider..

230

Re: FilaWinder Documentation

You don't need to do all that... just flip the polarity of the motor connection.

231

Re: FilaWinder Documentation

Go ahead and try it and see how well it works......

232

Re: FilaWinder Documentation

I have tried it, thank you. What are you referring to specifically?

233

Re: FilaWinder Documentation

The best thing to do about the spool hub loosening up is to jam a second nut against it.  Tighten the first one as tight as you can against the hub, then hold it still with some pliers while you tighten a second nut against the first.  I started adding an extra M8 nut into the kits, so depending on when you ordered you might already have one.

234

Re: FilaWinder Documentation

I tried using a jamnut, and it will still loosen unless I use 2 wrenches, plus, now I have to thread 2 nuts on 4 inches of rod instead of one, and 2 more dedicated wrenches just for spool access........so, I printed a plastic wrench, that would just hold it by jamming itself against the backboard....

The real solution would be to flip everything over.......unless the nut will actually tighten enough to smash and break the spool holders/ends....I am using 3mm, not 1.75. and there is no way it will spool towards the back, as the filament would be jamming against the guide.

I might try turning it around, but the laser cut job is so bad that I don't think the parts would stay in...

Re: FilaWinder Documentation

Depending on your spools you can add a little hook to the big cogwheel that grips into the spool.

Re: FilaWinder Documentation

That sort of describes the right side.
On the left side, I use a cone, and no matter what I use, it will still spin, I just printed an open-end wrench that snaps on and jams against the backboard, which will work until I feel like turning everything over......how much extruding do you do? do you ever change between PLA and ABS? or, is it a Pain in the A?

Re: FilaWinder Documentation

I know I need to mount the winder 18" to the right (im doing a vertical setup) but how far down in the middle does the laser need to be so I can properly do this

238

Re: FilaWinder Documentation

9"-10" is a good start.  I try to make the loop a half-circle, but there is a lot of leeway.  You might find that the filament doesn't want to hang right in the center, it may settle in to one side or the other.

Re: FilaWinder Documentation

what do I do if my ponteniometer knob makes things go right when i turn it left and vice versa? Also the spool motor cuts off when I turn it right instead of left.

Take the plug on the board and flip it half way around.

Re: FilaWinder Documentation

thank you that worked. Finally got it calibrated and working properly. I really enjoy the filastruder set up.

Re: FilaWinder Documentation

I can't get teh v10a version of the firmware to compile.  I keep getting a file not found on the EEPROM files.

243

Re: FilaWinder Documentation

Finished my Filastruder and Filawinder over the weekend.  Ran it for 24hrs and was able to get a full kg spool done.

But, for some reason, the last 10-15ft, the filawinder sensor stopped working.  I tried to get to sense manually but no go.  I turned it off and on, still no go.

I ended up recalibrating it, and that seemed to fix the problem as I'm on my second spool now.

Ian, do you know what causes this?  Anyway, I hope it doesn't poke its head again, otherwise its going to be a messy floor.

Re: FilaWinder Documentation

Filawinder V10a firmware not available anymore ? There´s no download link in the sticky post on documentation.

Thanks, Helio.

Re: FilaWinder Documentation

I'm not sure if he took that link down on purpose, but the file is still there:

Re: FilaWinder Documentation

Hi:

But when I click the link, the file shown is:

FilaWinder_v9a-2.zip

Thanks,
Helio.

Re: FilaWinder Documentation

Ah. I tried to reformat the link off a v9a-2 link, but it seems Dropbox won't let me do that.

Best bet is contacting Ian.

Re: FilaWinder Documentation

Help, just received our FilaWInder and cannot seem to find the stl files to start printing the parts, where are they?
Thanks!

Re: FilaWinder Documentation

Question for Ian,
I'm trying to source an equivalent gear motor to the filawinder motor as listed in the filawinder BOM xlsx file on thiniverse -->http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:174383/#files. The url listed in the excel file says the part  has  been removed form ebay. Besides the 15 rpm can you give me some indication of the min. torque required for the motor in the filawinder application. I am planning on winding 3mm ABS.
Thanks in advance.
