Topic: Interesting Business Model

Pretty steep cover charge for Club NV, but it will be interesting to see if it takes off with institutions...

Re: Interesting Business Model

Yeah, interesting indeed. So if I understand their model correctly, they will basically "loan" you the printer at your location for an unlimited number of use, while charging you a subscription fee... smile Pretty smart actually. Now, I wonder what would happen if the printer breaks? I assume a technician from the company would come over and fix the machine? smile  I have actually thought of doing something like this for the schools in my community here in California, but just haven't had the courage to go talk to them... smile Not only that, I simply don't know how, or who to talk to... LOL smile  Instead of charging them a subscription though, I thought of charging them hourly blocks. Since I have multiple printers in my shop, I was thinking of charging them some dollar amount for every 100 hours or so. Students/teachers would send me the STL files, I would print them, send printed model(s) back, you guys get the idea... smile

Re: Interesting Business Model

cool. the block rent thing is used by a couple members on here, it dont work in some areas due to school policy restrictions with profit businesses selling through school. meant to curb profiteering and conflict of interest with non-profits but kinda hurts the freedom of access for students also. while costing school more to purchase and fund new projects like 3D printing for curriculum. seems lots of old fashion board members dont understand this or care.

Re: Interesting Business Model

Yeah, I figure there would be some restrictions due to school policy, and we have some of the "strangest and weirdest" policies here in California unfortunately... smile  Have to try somewhere else, maybe to a private school. Or maybe not even try at all... smile

Re: Interesting Business Model

I love the Yoda head comment at the beginning.  I've heard the comment "so what can it do besides print Yoda busts" many times.  I am proud to say that I have never printed a Yoda head on my printer.  :-)

Any bets on how long before someone designs a "beefy arm" Yoda...

Re: Interesting Business Model

As mentioned before this concept is not new, but they have advantage and their package seems fair enough especially for school!
