Topic: [ABS] - MG94 And GP35 Review And Comparison

My setup is a vertical Filastruder with a Filawinder. I also have a melt filter nozzle with a slightly bigger drilled out hole. No modifications... yet. Most of the GP35 prints were done prior to mods on my printer, but most of the MG94 prints were done after mods were installed on my printer.

MG94
Extrusion temperature: 186°C
Extrusion rate without colorant: 8-16 inches per minute
Extrusion rate with colorant: 6-10 inches per minute
Average diameter of filament: 1.64mm
Tolerances: + or - 0.02mm
Comments: This is the same resin that comes with that Filastruder. The surface of the extruded filament is very smooth and shinny. I got 10 pounds from http://3dsupplysource.com/ , and have extruded about 3 pounds worth. The pellets are small and rectangular looking. Colorants mix in fine, but can cause the extrusion rate to slow dramatically.

This is what the MG94 pellets look like. The calibration cube they are in is not printed in MG94, however it is printed in GP35.

GP35
Extrusion temperature: 184°C
Extrusion rate without colorant: 8-10 inches per minute
Extrusion rate with colorant: 2-6 inches per minute
Average diameter of filament: 1.61mm
Tolerances: + or - 0.02mm
Comments: The surface of the extruded filament is coarse. The pellets are spherical and larger than MG94 pellets. I bought. 10 pounds from http://3dsupplysource.com/. I have extruded about 6 pounds. Colorants mix in fine, but can cause the extrusion rate to slow dramatically. These pellets were also cheaper then MG94 pellets.

You can see that the filament on the spool does not shine like MG94.

Filawinder piece- I can not remember the name. Printed at 300 microns.

Overall I prefer MG94 since it has been more widely tested, and has an excellent extrusion rate. If you need fast extrusion get MG94. If you're not in a hurry to extrude, and you want to save a few bucks get some GP35. I have not seen any difference in prints between the two materials.

Have you tried the GP35 at a higher temp?  I do it at 190-195 and I get 1.72-1.74mm diameter, around 13"/min with color.  I like it way better than the MG94, that's why I started selling it. :-)

Also, do you have the link to the spool file? That is awesome.

Here the thread with the spool http://www.soliforum.com/topic/589/fila … oolsreels/ credit goes out to danny.

As for the GP35 I will do more testing and update this thread if I get any new results

Re: [ABS] - MG94 And GP35 Review And Comparison

Just curious, but do you find that the GP35 feeds better into the Filastruder than the MG94? The reason I ask is that while I've only extruded MG94 and Lustran 408, and the Lustran 408 is in bigger "chunks" than the MG94 the fact is that due to the roundness of the pellets it feeds much better.

Unfortunately, it doesn't print anywhere near as well as the MG94 does. Lustran 408 has a warping problem that MG94 simply doesn't. I was able to get all of my Filawinder parts printed with the Lustran 408 but it was difficult. Printing a "bolt and wing nut" with MG94 was simple and the tolerance was perfect.

If GP35 has better feed characteristics, prints well, and is slightly cheaper than MG94 I'll definitely have to give it a try after my 10 lbs of MG94 runs out.

GP35 prints just as well as MG94 from my experiences. As for feeding there is not much of a difference.

Re: [ABS] - MG94 And GP35 Review And Comparison

I think it feeds faster, I have to refill it more often than MG94, but that could be because of the faster flow rate that I'm getting.  The round pellets are a bit larger than the MG94 pellets, so sometime they "pop" when one gets sheared at the front of the feeder opening; however, my auger has some damage there, so it could be only when that damaged area grabs a pellet and forces it to shear.

Re: [ABS] - MG94 And GP35 Review And Comparison

I extruded GP94 at 200 with 17-19 inches per minute. Entire barrel wrapped and nozzle drilled to 1.8
10hrs and 2LB of pellets were GONE THRU !!!!!!!

What is GP94?
