Topic: M3Delta

I have started to build the delta printer I have mentioned in other threads, so I figured I would show off what has been built so far.
I have designed and printed the carriages, supports for the extruded aluminum, idler holders, and the motor holders.
The carriages where designed so that I could adjust the tension on the carriage and the rest was (so far) designed so that part of the belt would be hidden while it moves.
Goals to accomplish : figure out base supports that will allow me to adjust the bed for manual levelling, printing a bowden type extruder, the effector, and mount for the E3Dv6.
Any and all suggestions are welcome!

Re: M3Delta

How much you figure it going to cost! Looks like fun! I almost have enough spare parts to pull something like this off!

Re: M3Delta

Here's the current BOM list. As of right now, it is right at $700 for everything.  You could probably cut down build cost by going with a different extrusion size, different controller (smoothieboard is still not a definite choice), and different printing surface (using the Onyx because heating surface is 12v and I don't have to order on E-bay)

Most of the screws and nuts I ordered in packages of 100 so that I could cut down on individual costs.

www.ultibots.com has been pretty awsome at getting my parts to me in a timely manner and answering questions

www.openbuilds.com has been not so good with getting parts out, but I liked the design of their extrusion and they had sketchup files for parts.  Unfortunately the last couple of times I have checked, the links for the files have been broken

Amazon is Amazon.  Quick turn around and you can get most anything.  All of my purchases there give to the wounded warrior project, so that doesn't hurt either.

got the base worked out and set it up with adjustable knob

Re: M3Delta

also finished cutting the diagonals for the effector.  The effector right now is a place holder until I get my E3Dv6 (Keep an eye out, tim) so that I can design that.  And yes, that's an old tabletop episode playing on the laptop while I put this together.

Re: M3Delta

Decided to go with an airtripper version for the extruder.  Modified it so that I can mount it to the 20/40 extrusion.  Nice thing about it, I can flip it over depending on if I want to mount the filament spool on top or just use a spool holder on the desk.

finished soldering the hot plate up and adding hardware for levelling it.

Re: M3Delta

Had a day off today, so did some changes because I broke a carriage while putting things together.

Beefed up the carriage:

Added endstops to the idler:

finished the effector for the E3Dv6 and finished the physical side of the build:

All that's left is the electronics (crosses fingers) and the calibration (prepares the sacrifice for the 3d printing Gods)...

Now to clean up the wiring, add a base, add a filament holder, and calibrate the sucker

Re: M3Delta

Nice build, comrade!

I've been considering a Delta for a while now.. They'd be perfect the stuff I make.
Curious, what kind of accuracies are you expecting with it?

This is a crowd funding thing that I'm running: http://www.gofundme.com/bvi140 It's for pretty selfish reasons tongue

Very Nice Indeed!  Great Job!  Post a Video when she's dialed in!

Re: M3Delta

Here's the first print after some calibration tests.  The 25mm square calibrations came out to 24.96mm X 25.12mm x 25.06mm, so I am pretty happy so far.  I am over extruding a wee bit, but better that than under extruding.  This video is printed at .3mm:

Re: M3Delta

Did some cable management by rerouting cables along struts, adding a mount for the lcd and motherboard, and adding a piece to the effector to prevent cables from twisting the hot end around.  Going to try out the BuildTak surface to see if it helps adhesion.  Heating the plate seems to take a long time and I am not motivated to build another lexan case as it would be close to 20x20x40 inches.
