you may want to check with local welding shops when I worked with production welding we would change at a roll of wire just about every day.
Would you guys throw away the empty spools?
yep I may still have a couple I saved I can look.
your local electrician may have some surplus as well.
remember one mans trash is an others treasure just need to figure out who has the trash.

My local Micro Center lets me have their empty spools whenever their printer is done. They just throw them in the recycle bin otherwise.
HomeDepot/Lowes who sells eletrical wires by length have empty spools.
I picked up 2 in one visit.
I just use printed spools now.
LOL i was going to do the same thing.
Pretty eazy. All u need is 3 parts. 2 ends and one cylinder in the middle.
But its time consuming 
I have some spools if you are still interested.
