Y-axis idler brackets? I am not sure what part those are. I can say my belts never looks very sturdy on the Y carriage and maybe it is lossening over time. I suppose I should print a replacement for them at some point.

They're the plastic blocks that hold the pulleys on the inside front of the printer, where the Y belts loop through and back to meet the X-axis carriage.

Re: ColorFabb Bronzefill

I did try, it does seem to smooth the layers some but not as much even as normal PLA, but it does some. For sure we don't want to drop in some M.E.K Substitute as it makes it too soft and leaves a white film. Though a wet paper towel with M.E.K Substite can smooth it some, but not enough to make it usually worthwhile.

The best things I have found for a final shine is wire brass dremmel tool add on, fine steel wool or 2000 grit sandpaper.

I have read that Aluminum Oxide Sandpaper works great on this stuff. I'll have to get some and try it.  I am exploring ways for a more consistent finish.

What is the process with flame polishing?  Heat and smooth?

Re: ColorFabb Bronzefill

I had no no real process in this one lol. I took an aim in flame and heated up the print some. I had hoped it would smooth out some before it deformed too much melt. Nope, Didn't seem to go that way. Does anyone flame polish ABS or PLA? Maybe I did it wrong? Maybe I was follish to try?  LOL

Re: ColorFabb Bronzefill

Now that I think back it maybe I took the idea from the article I read on PrintedSolid with them flame polishing some ColorFabb woodfill. Maybe it works better on that. I'll have to try it. But they didn't speak of the process at all.

Re: ColorFabb Bronzefill

With PLA type plastics, it seems to go straight from "Nothing's happening" to "OMG it's melting!"  It seems the temperature has to be just right, for just the right amount of time which seems like it would take more skill and practice than I would be interested in pursuing.

Re: ColorFabb Bronzefill

Would a buffing wheel make any sense. You can choose almost any grit you want. It is easy to be too aggressive with a buffing wheel and it's tough to get into the crevices, but it usually does a great job at shining up almost any metal.

Re: ColorFabb Bronzefill

That is so cool...thanks for sharing.
Gonna assemble my other E3D this weekend and order some of that goodness next week!

I read the "instructions" on it...seemed like key is just treating it like normal PLA, but with far more options to finish the part. Have you noticed and difference in strength between Bronzefill and PLA?

Re: ColorFabb Bronzefill

It appears it's about the same strength of PLA after printing but I haven't really tried to test it or anything.

I have also found I sort of want to print this stuff in a high infill just to add to the weight.

Yep it's supposed to be very close to normal PLA with maybe needing a little more flow sometimes. I hadn't really figured if I needed it or not before I broke stuff hehe.

Yes, AZERATE join me in the "Bronze Age"!

I ordered some additional dremmel tools and hand sandpapers just to see if any of them would give a better shine. I mean I can get it shiny, I just would like it shiner if possible.

Re: ColorFabb Bronzefill

Ok, got my E3Dv6 in and am back up and running.

I managed to get through a 2 hour print with the following settings/setup different from regular PLA, and no support:

Nozzle .4mm

Printer Settings (which seems important):
Retraction 4.5mm
Retraction Speed 45 mm/s

Filiment Settings:
220 extruder
60 for the bed

Flow Settings:100%
Speed Settings: 100% of standard default Slic3R settings

Otherwise I suggest more peremiters since you will be sanding this down along with thickining anything too thin for the same reason.

This print is not perfect but should all sand just fine (which I will post when I am done sanding)

Re: ColorFabb Bronzefill

Forgot to mention, seems like I did not need to increase my flowrate like I was orginally playing with nor did I adjust my speed.

Flow rate 100%
Speed 100% (I am just using standard default speed settings in slic3r)
