Re: RepRapDiscount "Bulldog XL" Geared Metal Extruder on a Solidoodle 3!

I've been eyeballing the Bulldogs for a couple months and will pick one up soon.
I'm more than sold by the pictures and comments on the XL, but can anyone tell me the key differences between the XL and Lite?

Could have sworn I saw a thread stating them, but couldn't find it.

Printit Mason and Printit Horizon printers
Multiple SD2s- Bulldog XL, E3D v5/v6/Lite6, Volcano, Hobb Goblin, Titan, .9 motor, Lawsy carriages, direct Y drive, fishing line...the list goes on

XL is geared 5.2:1 so it eliminates moire.  The trade off is more mass but that is only an issue with higher print speeds.

Re: RepRapDiscount "Bulldog XL" Geared Metal Extruder on a Solidoodle 3!

I may pick up a LITE as I have 1/32 drivers so moire shouldn't be a problem.  Then I will move the XL to the other SD3 without those drivers.

Re: RepRapDiscount "Bulldog XL" Geared Metal Extruder on a Solidoodle 3!

Ok I finally made it to alaska and have gotten settled in with my 3d Printer.  SHE MADE IT IN ONE PIECE!! :-) I just ordered a blower motor and I'm printing it now.  Can't wait to try it out!

Re: RepRapDiscount "Bulldog XL" Geared Metal Extruder on a Solidoodle 3!

Glad everything made it... I was wondering about you just a couple of days ago.  Compared to your last location we are virtually neighbors now.  Still got daylight don't you, bet that'll mess with your sleep cycle but I bet you'll get in more print time.
That fan duct is a tight fit but mine has been working flawlessly.  Anyway I'm glad you made it safely.

Re: RepRapDiscount "Bulldog XL" Geared Metal Extruder on a Solidoodle 3!

Hey Wardjr, just wanted to give you a heads up that the duct works great! Sadly I had to take it off though, I changed to the E3D V6 which makes the whole assembly just a smidge shorter.  Just wanted to say thanks for your work!!!

Re: RepRapDiscount "Bulldog XL" Geared Metal Extruder on a Solidoodle 3!

Your welcome, when I get some time I'll be switching also.  My v6 is sitting in a box awaiting my attention along with a kraken.  I would think you could just trim some off the bottom till I get around to a redesign.

Re: RepRapDiscount "Bulldog XL" Geared Metal Extruder on a Solidoodle 3!

Hey guys, I need a replacement Fan for the XL. I shorted mine out. Any idea of where to get one quickly?

Re: RepRapDiscount "Bulldog XL" Geared Metal Extruder on a Solidoodle 3!

Quickly could be hard but I ordered some off of EBay. They were slightly smaller but should work.  They had adhesive on the back so you should be able to just stick and go.  I'm on my phone so no link, sorry.

You are in Minnesota, I am in wisconsin... : ) I bet it would get here pretty quickly! : )

Ill look around tommorow on the ebay.

Re: RepRapDiscount "Bulldog XL" Geared Metal Extruder on a Solidoodle 3!

I can do that if you need me to.  I bought two and used one for the G-code nozzle fan.  It hangs under the carriage so it is out of the way.  The second is just a spare.

Re: RepRapDiscount "Bulldog XL" Geared Metal Extruder on a Solidoodle 3!

I have a bunch of other small fans. Maybe I can just use one of those instead. I though i just needed that side exhaust one that comes stock. I suppose i could just mount another 40mm somewhere else?

Re: RepRapDiscount "Bulldog XL" Geared Metal Extruder on a Solidoodle 3!

I would try and stick with that same layout.

Pm sent. I'll take a fan if you can spare one. Looks like the ones I am finding are expensive or will take months to get here.

RRD sell them as a spare for $15 you know....
Could always pickup a Hexagon hotend while you're at it wink

Re: RepRapDiscount "Bulldog XL" Geared Metal Extruder on a Solidoodle 3!

I looked there right away. Shipping was like $50.

Re: RepRapDiscount "Bulldog XL" Geared Metal Extruder on a Solidoodle 3!

Its sent FedEx Express.. So yeah. But its fairly flat rate, hence if you combine it with a new hotend then it doesn't really sting. No worries though if you're getting the same spec blower fan from digikey for less..

Re: RepRapDiscount "Bulldog XL" Geared Metal Extruder on a Solidoodle 3!

Question: Has anyone tried and successfully printed with any form of flexible filament with the XL? And if so... How in the hell?

I've seen this dudes Xl doing the job, but I can't quite tell if he's made any modifications so as to avoid the filament wrapping around the hobbed pulley.

Re: RepRapDiscount "Bulldog XL" Geared Metal Extruder on a Solidoodle 3!

you just slow waay down - as you need to for any flexible filament in any extruder

I mean like 15-20% of what your 'normal' print speed is.

And yes - Ninjaflex tongue

173

Re: RepRapDiscount "Bulldog XL" Geared Metal Extruder on a Solidoodle 3!

I did! Down to about 30mm/s around abouts.
Managed to wrap the filament around the pulley about 8 times before I noticed what was going on... Ahhh this is going to be fun.
Any thoughts on the spring tension for flexible stuff? Or should it be no different than normal(I tend to just have them both flush with the casing).

Re: RepRapDiscount "Bulldog XL" Geared Metal Extruder on a Solidoodle 3!

most flexible filament is pretty grippy, so it doesn't need as much as 'normal' filament.
Also - slightly - and I do mean slightly - higher temp which reduces viscosity and thus pressure required to flow it - trade off is, slightly blobbier.

And 30mm/s is still quick for flexi...

other random tips/suggestions (on the gross stereotypical assumption 'all flexible filament is pretty much alike' tongue )

Crap.
Alrighty then, guess I'll cut down even further on the morrow.

I got this stuff: https://www.3dprintergear.com.au/flex-p … 15lbs.html
Don't ask me why I chose that over the Ninjaflex, I wouldn't be able to give you a logical answer.
