A few pics of a 1/16 RC loader print project. I still have a lot to do, the axels are Losi and the tires are from Imex. pretty much everything else is printed parts

What is your post-printing finish process? You're getting a very good 'industrial' result; they look like metal Tonka toys.

Thanks, for now I'm just giving the parts 2 light coats of acetone with leftover support material mixed into it. The plan is to paint all the parts before final assembly and match the skidder (last pic) which is an all aluminum and brass build, but the loader doesn't look to bad leaving it white & natural. I am trying different methods of finishing and being new to 3D printing any suggestions, advice or tips would be appreciated. Warping of larger parts so far has been my biggest problem

Very nice!!! Cobb, what are you going to do for the cylinders? is this just a static model?

Thanks, I am making screwjacks/electric actuators for the cylinders. I kicked around using hydraulics but decided to go all electric so as to be able to print as many parts as possible. They will have to be reinforced with brass or aluminum. I'll be using 380 size motors & 4mm threaded rod. One to drive the boom cylinders and one on the bucket cylinder. R&D (trial and error) and a little math, will determine ratios for the gearboxes. I'm hoping for a 6 second full cycle time. It will be a fully functional working model on 5 channels with lights and all that good stuff. The main drive is a 540 55t motor which is inside the "engine"running through the transmission and gears that i printed, that part was easy, the actuators are a little more difficult. I guess the only way to know if abs is strong enough for this project is to try it and see where the stress problems are but, I anticipate having to redesign a few parts. Still lots of fun!!

Yeah, that's the beauty of printing your own parts... you can always make more
I love the hydraulic systems some of the guys over on rctruck use in some of their models but boy they can get expensive quick!!!

Some progress on the loader project, headphone/cable holders for the studio, guards for the garden tractor and a hot dog warmer !!

Looking very good Cobb. I'll probably asking you a few questions and get some tips from you in the coming weeks. I'm going to be modeling, printing, and building a John Deere tractor that's remote controlled for the Mum.
I really enjoy seeing practical uses of printed parts.
Bowden SD3, Rumba, E3D hotend, Mk5 with RtRyder changes, Direct drive Y axis and bearings, GT2 pulleys and braided fishing line, Lawsy linear bearing conversion, M3 Z screw.

Thanks, I would be glad to help. I have been tinkering with RC equipment since the 80's and this 3D printer approach is a big help with developing the parts and pieces

Well it took about a year but it was well worth it. Here are some assembly and testing pic's. The machine works better than I expected!! More pics and info to come... will try to get a video posted somewhere too.

Thank you, the driver figure and crew are from Bruder. The gear boxes use Robinson metal gears and Duratrax ball bearings. The screws are 1/4 28. with 18t brushless systems from Hobbywing. The main drive uses a Novak 55t motor and Tekin FXR esc. Steering is done with a Castle bec and Savox 1230sg servo.The drive axels are Losi with Imex tires. I still have the lights to add and some other details to finish. The first tests have given 30min. run times with an 1800 ThunderPower 2cell lipo.
