Topic: solidoodle 3 m999 error after adjusting printer settings midpoint

hello!

i have had the printer for about 3 weeks and have gone through about a spool and a half trying to get the printer calibrated and my slicer files dialed in.

i had achieved a satisfactory print yesteday on a 7x7x7 semi-solid cube, when near the end of the print i changed the printer setting to "turn off extruder head after job/kill" because the print was set to finish when i would be sleeping.  after hitting apply and clicing ok i watch briefly before going to bed only to wake up in the morning with errors:

< 7:07:50 PM: Printer stopped due to errors. Fix the error and use M999 to restart. (Temperature is reset. Set it after restarting)

the job continues through repeating each error line by line.

i have uninstalled and reinstalled repetier, used the reset button on the printer.  sometimes everything is fine and then the errors cascade suddenly.  now the extruder head is not responding or holding temperature.

i had an issue with a power outage causing the printer to fail, which i reinstalled drivers and everything was fine.

not really sure what to do because there is not a lot online.  most people say to check the thermistor but it's not a min/maxtemp issue, so i suspect the firmware.  i'd like to reinstall factory settings on the motherboard but solidoodle website says not to mess with it.

thanks for your help!

sincerely,

I doubt it is the firmware....check the connections on the wire side of the blue plug, the IDC connectors sometimes come unseated and need to be reseated with an IDC tool or small flat screwdriver.

hello ronsii!

yes i checked the blue plug as you suggested and i tried the multimeter and there is no current.  so that means the resistor is bad?  i think that's what other posts said, but i don't see any documentation on how/what to replace.

thank you for the prompt response!

Re: solidoodle 3 m999 error after adjusting printer settings midpoint

Sorry!  I'll be more descriptive:

I have enclosed the temperature curve screenshot from today.  I left the machine cold all day yesterday, and started it up with no problem today.  You can see I waited until the temp was holding steady at 195 before starting the print job.  As soon as the machine started in on the gcode the temp falls off like you can see and the head becomes non-responsive.

I multimeter tested (for resistance) immediately after turning off the machine:

Blue lead (thermistor?):  15ohms
Red lead (hot end?):  0-1 ohms.

after 5 minutes:

blue lead:  30ohns
red lead: 0-1ohms

after 5 minutes:

blue lead:  45 ohms
red lead:  0-1ohms

10 minutes:

blue lead 100ohms
red lead 0-1ohms

the power supply is fine.

i think that's everything you asked for.

thank you for your help!

sincerely,

according to the graph(pic) heater is still on when temp is dropping.... so you need to check all connections from mainboard to print head with respect to the heater in the hotend. This also could be a problem with the mainboard form the solder joints starting from the mosfet that controls the hotend heater or the plug for the heater that plugs into the mainboard as it uses the same IDC connections... same thing try reseating them. there is definitely a break in the circuit for the hotend heater.

Thanks ronsii

Turns out a bad multimeter was giving bad readings hmm

New data:

Red lead : 7.8ohms
Blue lead:  nothing

All the connections are solid.

Guess that means the thermistor is bad.  I see this is a common problem and will buy some replacement resistors from billycnc,  are there any other replacement parts y'all recommend to buy at the same time?

Thanks!

I have had the same problems. I replaced my thermistor with the connector attached. The problem did not go away.
I looked at the connector closely and found that it is installed with a tool. The tool presses the wire from the thermistor into a spike to make contact. Since I have slammed my connector into the wall the connection was loose. I pressed the wire into the connector from on top of the wire with a screwdriver and have been happily printing to 20 plus hours. I would like to get a new connector with more positive connection. Does anyone know of a better connector that can be installed without special tools.

I am have the same issue. print stops after 6-7 hours. It appears the temperatures are all over the place. I have a e3d hotend. I never upgraded the power supply.  Here is an image of temp curve before it fails.

You have a bad connection somewhere.

Re: solidoodle 3 m999 error after adjusting printer settings midpoint

I am worried it is the thermistor not staying seated in block. When I heated up the hotend to 300 degrees to tighten it the kapton tape kept peeling off and not sticking. I actually wrapping through the heater hole so it would come off but may not be working probably. Could my power supply need upgrading also?

Re: solidoodle 3 m999 error after adjusting printer settings midpoint

So I decided to take off thermistor and remount it on heater block. Now when I connect to printer in RH it shows zero for temperature without turning heater on. It use to say some temp. and when I go to turn the heater on I get

"Printer stopped due to errors. Fix the error and use M999 to restart. (Temperature is reset. Set it after restarting?

I also cannot move the carriage in X or Y, and when i try it gives the same message. I can hit X Home and Y Home and it will move to Home.

Your thermistor wires are shorted out probably against the heat block.
