Topic: Anyone printed Laywoo-D3 on the SD?

Hi Everyone,

When I bought my filament I also got a spool of the Laywoo-D3 filament thinking it would be something neat to print with, but I recently saw an another thread that you need a .5mm nozzle otherwise it clogs. I'm going to order a spare hot end incase I clog mine so I can keep it going, but I'm curious if anyone has printed with it with the stock .35mm SD nozzle and their experiences with it? Is it really that bad to print with?

Are you using 1.75 or 3mm filament?

I was under the impression that 1.75mm wasn't widely available.

walshy, let me know how it works. I wanted to try this stuff but didn't want to risk the clog.

You can get a .5 nozzle from Makergear for about $5. They ship fast, and include chocolate.  You could also print the Mk4 extruder to make it easy to swap out the hot ends.

You are definitely risking a clog if you are using anything that isn't 1.75 mm filament.

Re: Anyone printed Laywoo-D3 on the SD?

It's 1.75 filament which is why I asked. Everywhere I've read online people have said that it clogs on smaller nozzles, but I can't (in my new to 3D printer world mind) figure out why this would be the case if I'm using correct size filament for the correct size nozzle. I got it from Jamie at 3dprintergear.com.au (he posts in the for sale section on here) which has it in both 1.75 and 3mm variants.

Again as a newbie, can I just order the .5mm nozzle and directly replace the existing one without any hassle (i.e. unscrew one and screw in the other)? I'm not quite so keen to replace the whole hot end (yet anyway wink.

walshy the particles of thewood maybe larger than the diameter of the nozzle for the .35 end.
the reason plastic doesn't usually notice the term right there usually? clog is that it doesn't have sold particles in it

You can switch the nozzles on the same hot end. Just be sure you have some 1/4" Kapton for taping the thermistor back on.

We might be trying some of this out at a point soon in the future. We'll keep you posted.

It does not. Need 0.5mm to ensure you dont get clogs.

What about the .4 nozzle?

My SD3:  Clear plexiglass case, case heater, X axis stabilizer, Z axis stabilizer, thumb screws, filament guide, heatsinks on all motors, extruder fan, controller fan, heatsinks on motherboard, Y rod pillow block, USB and Power on/off switch, fully calibrated including trimpot tuning. Am I missing anything?

To avoid issues with clogs, you should really lean towards a .5 nozzle. Others will work, until they clog wink .4 will work for a while, but theres no telling when it will clog, where as with the .5 its from my experience entirely a non issue (clogs with laywoo (or laybrick) that is)
