Topic: problems with auto support, thinking about adding support manually

i have a couple of statue type prints that have been giving me trouble.  one is a female with one arm out streched.  the other is the same female sitting on the ground legs out straight.  if i try to run these through kisslicer it puts all sorts of weird flat horizontal areas of suppport that dont need to be there and are unsupported themselves so the fail.  if i run it through slic3r it creates the suppport correctly but it prints it too thin and the print fails because of that.  so i am thinking of adding solid objects into my stl to act as suppprt except for the last .5mm to the statue.  i will let the slicer connnect my support to the statue with its generated support. anyone have any tips for adding support manually?
