Topic: Hacks And Mods - Level Prefix

It might make modding less intimidating for some users if we came up with an easy to follow grading system.

Level 1 - Novice Consumer - Upgrade can be completed by anyone with no experience.
Level 2 - Techie Consumer - May require basic technical skills and/or mechanic skills to complete upgrade
Level 3 - Early Adopter - A good knowledge of your system is a must and may require firmware changes
Level 4 - Beta Testers  - Will require improvisation for firmware and or hardware. Might break your system
Level 5 - Developer - Has not yet been completed and will require major hardware and firmware changes to make work. Your system will be broken.

SD3 w/ mods:
Glass bed with QU-BD heat pad upgrade, threadless ballscrew w/ 8mm smooth rod, spectra line belt replacement, lawsy MK5 extruder, Lawsy replacement carriage, E3D hotend, Ramps 1.4 w/ reprap discount controller, DRV8825 drivers, 12v 30A PS, Acrylic case, Overkill Y-idlers, Filament alarm, Extruder fan + more.

That sounds like a nice idea.

The trouble is remembering to implement it when users make new posts. I suppose we can always edit it in.

Re: Hacks And Mods - Level Prefix

Somewhat related to this, it might be useful if on an exploded diagram of one of these machines part annotations could be made that would show a reference to one or more upgrades for said part.  The reference could be to a forum posting/thread or a thingiverse model.  The "level" of the upgrade could also be indicated.

Along with the details for the part in question (for straight replacement purposes) such a resource would be a handy reference for someone wanting to figure out how to best upgrade their unit.

Just a thought, as I try to figure out what I should be teeing up for changes...

Can these be put in the drop down like the help sections "HELP!" and "Solved"?

Re: Hacks And Mods - Level Prefix

2n2r5,

this is a great idea, especially if we can search by the difficulty, I know I will mod my SD at some point,

Can we add a rating system too for the effectiveness of the mod, I know we can by reading the posts but it takes so much time..
