Topic: Should there be a section on scanning techniques?

For making replacement parts and things, coming up with a way to scan items seems like it might go right along with 3d printing.

For instance, one of the things I want to make someday is a "sheath" for my car keyfob because bending over or sitting down when it is in my pocket quite often presses an annoying button (like triggering the alarm), but it is one of those small parts that has no straight lines and is all streamlined and curved everywhere. Coming up with a form fitting cover to go over it without taking lots of extra pocket room will (I'd imagine) be a challenge.

Some cheap technique for scanning small parts to make a model would be nice.
