Do you save very much making your own filament?  What does it cost to make a kilogram?  How consistent is the diameter?

I've saved over $700. 1kg costs about $7. Diameter is +/-0.05mm for ABS.

Re: Filastruder Kit Gallery - Pictures of Filastruders in the wild!

It costs me about $15 a KG, still a good savings, wish it was more of a savings though tongue

Also here's #62 just almost finished it last night, I havn't attached the filament guide yet because I want to do something I could adjust, I also want to replace the insulation with something that's not so messy... and itchy...

This would be #84.  Couldn't find any wood, but I had some scrap aluminum sitting around, really.  Test fitting before I drill and tap for the upright mountings.  Yeah, total overkill.

Because it is not necessary and if powder/ceramic based, a source of contamination.

Also, this thread is for pictures of Filastruders, not technical/design questions. Lets stay on topic.

Filastruder version 1.1 #257 all built but for the nozzle... (Tim is sending me one - my kit was attacked by the gorillas at the post office and the original nozzle is somewhere between PA and Florida!) Can't seem to post pic (newbie?) I have prepared it, waiting for nozzles and granulate from Tim. Now, when I uploaded the pictures I have realized that I mounted outside the flange.

What do you mean?

You have mounted the main flange properly if you have a serial number 134 or higher.

I just received my Filastruder Kit #287.

Of course I have not received my QU-BD RPM 3D printer so I can not print the funnel and control panel.

Looks like everything arrived OK, I also received my Nylon, Thanks Tim.

Hi, Tim,

Unfortunately the kit number is 93, which means it must be inside of the box as my understanding is. Thank you.

Yessir! What gave you the idea to put it on the outside? The YouTube video and instructions say inside (for v1.0).

Re: Filastruder Kit Gallery - Pictures of Filastruders in the wild!

None of these seem to have a thermal barrier between the heater and the hopper. Does the water pipe just not conduct that much heat? Wouldn’t the ABS beads get gummed up on the auger and spin with it instead of moving down the pipe?

Thermal barrier is not needed. It is a steel barrel, but it could all be heated to 200C and still work fine. If anything you want the barrel hot and the screw cool.

If you want the theory, read Polymer Extrusion By Chris Rauwendaal. Otherwise, just trust all the pictures and videos:

Re: Filastruder Kit Gallery - Pictures of Filastruders in the wild!

I am pleased to report that another Filastruder, #437, has come online!  (Image as attachment.)

I haven't printed the electronics enclosure yet, but that's on my list.  Everything seems to be working as expected: switch 1 turns on the PID and the heater.  Switch 2 turns on the fan and the motor.  I know there's an auto-start feature available, but I wanted to start with the standard setup before trying variations.  It gets to 180 C and settles there as expected.  No resistance or unpleasant noises when the motor is turning.  Fan is spinning in the correct direction.  smile

I haven't run any plastic through it yet; I have some errands to run and I don't want to leave it unattended.  But I wanted to go ahead and post my progress!  Will run the supplied ABS pellets through it later today, and I have more on order.
