Again then I'm sorry danny about my assumption, it seemed to mirror your comments from the shipping thread.  Hopefully no hard feelings, but my sentiments about the wiki remaining positive still stand.

Re: New Wiki!

Brad, can you get me access to some additional areas? I would like to change the side bar menu, and tweak some of the css styling.

Re: New Wiki!

Done, you should now have more permissions to do that.

Re: New Wiki!

One more thing, what is our policy for reuploading pictures people have posted to Thingiverse, this forum?

I want to upload some pics to the wiki but are not sure if we need permission.

35

Re: New Wiki!

Do you think that would be affected by the license they chose for their upload?

Re: New Wiki!

Taking things from thingyverse and uploading to other places is covered by the you will not copy whole or in part the stuff here licence clauses if the thingyverse, regardless of what the user says.

You can of course print the objects and print them and get your own photos.

Re: New Wiki!

I figured Thingiverse would have something like that. In my specific example I wanted an image of TCfea's electronics cover from Thingiverse and an image of Zimmer62's back mounted fan from Photobucket.

Re: New Wiki!

I thought you could use an image as long as it was a link to the original web site that hosted it and not to a copy of the image.

Re: New Wiki!

We can turn on a setting that allows external images to be embedded. Then authors can make sure they post it as a thumb with the original address as the caption.

Re: New Wiki!

Ok, I've tweaked the css so that every h2 level heading (the ones we make with == either side) will start below any images from the previous section. On pages with a lot of sub-headings and images, this will help keep the right images next to the right text. Thanks Brad for the access.

I'd have to read the license again to be sure. (And it's written in horrible legalise type text.)
But I wouldn't have thought they'd like hot linking either.

They are after all a business, they pay for their hosting with their adverts. Hot linking their contents and they have to pay the hosting/bandwidth fees and not get the revenue from ad display.

Since the people uploading the images (and retaining the original copyright) are solo doodle customers etc, would it not be easier to just seek permission to use the original files from them?

It might be that I was wrong and the "shall not copy" only applies to thingyverse content and not user content.
