Topic: New 3d printer file website

Hi,
We are launching a new website called thrint.  We are on the lookout for people like you to become one of our founding members, spread the word and help us populate the site with great files. Thrint is dedicated to bringing 3D printing to the home, so all our files must be ones that would suit families and households and be useful to people at home. This means that industrial parts, weapons or just random shapes are out.

Thrint works in a similar way to thingiverse but you have the added benefit of being able to earn commission on your work. We are also not tied to any particular manufacturer and so can provide unbiased information.  Our intention with the website is the link up with suppliers of printers and consumables and to share our contacts with all our contributors.

As we are new, we really need to build the site, but with a good response from designers like you we can fully load it and attract browsers. As a founding member, there will be some extra benefits which will soon be announced. Our website may have some bugs, and we will be incorporating features as time goes on, so please bear with us in the mean time.

Please help us get up and running :-)
Thanks
Simon

I did a quick search and came up with lots of hits that they have recently posted on lots of various forums and other places about their kickstarter, I guess they were in a hurry and didn't notice that the forum software here does not leave links in if you only have 1 post... they do have 10 backers in the kickstarter though.

Man I wish some of these little startups could better web design. Site also seems like it wants to make its vistors DDoS itself. Every file image is actually the STL being sent and rendered locally.  Everytime you mouse over that rendering, it will download the STL again and re-render it.  If you leave and roll your mouse back over, it will once again download the STL and re-render.  They seem to have an inversion to generating thumbnails and caching. Most of the previews wont even render at the hover at all.

They want you to convert your cash (listed in GBP only) to their virtual currency.  You cannot purchase credits and files in the same transaction... why am I still on this site!

Unable to view forum without registering.

This venture seems like it will have a pretty short shelf life. I would stay away.

I think the only time we will actually have a real thingiverse alternative is when I decide to stop being lazy and start coding one tongue

Damn, if I begged for money on kickstarter for every project Ive done... Id probably be a richer man.
