Re: Nylon

I actually tried printing the stretch bracelet by emmett, but it unravels on the strands too easily.  If I can get the filament to work better when perimeters are only one thick, I would get better results

Re: Nylon

I've been MIA for a while, everything has been going swimmingly with my printer, it is now something I see as a tool, and it just works. It is more of an enabler for my other hobbies than a hobby in itself!

I have just ordered some of taulman from 3dprintergear, will post back with how I get on when it turns up!

Re: Nylon

Have you guys tried to dye your nylon prints using Rit dye yet?  I'm still to nervous to load my 618 into my sd2 but this 3 lbs and 8 different dye colors keep calling my name!

I haven't had any trouble at all with this clogging the nozzle.  In fact I have more trouble keeping it in the nozzle, as it's really oozing out.  To combat this, I've just been using a pair of tweezers to pull it away shortly before I print, and I've kept my fan on the entire time to keep it from getting too crazy and stringy.

I find the idea of printing nylon really hot a bit odd because like you I've found that it's actually harder to get it to stay in the nozzle than it is to make it come out!

I want to be.  I printed at 195, 200, 205, and 210.  Still trying to decided whether I like the 205 or the 210 better though.

I based my quality of print off of the strands not coming apart in the delamination test that Taulman posted on thingiverse.  I highly recommend it to get you started.

Any other questions lemme know! As well as suggestions as to what I should print in this new filament!

Are you finding cooler or hotter better.
I kind of gave up printing in nylon, but I did find it difficult to get layers to stick properly. I found that cooler printing made something that de-laminated easy, whilst hotter printing allowed a more solid object, but an object that was very solid. (good for creating gears I guess!) but that started to lack definition, would be interesting to see where you end up regarding temperature selection.

Anyway, the reason I gave up was because I was finding it very difficult to find a surface that the nylon would stick to, (other than paper) what are you actually printing on?

Re: Nylon

I've tried printing the nylon now. Interesting stuff to try print with! My parts would have turned out great if they stuck to the bed better. I printed the first layer at 210 then the rest at 200. Any lower and it would delaminate, any higher and I'm sure my printer would have melted.

I've been reading up on how to print with it, seems a lot of people have the same problem.

Re: Nylon

What have you been printing on? I print on green painters tape stuck to a glass sheet, and I dont warm the bed up at all

Re: Nylon

Im using scotch blue, and am having no end of trouble. It just doesnt seem to stick... no matter what I do with the bed. I've been recommended to use some garolite, ill give that a shot and see how it goes.

I just bought some nylon and garolite from octave. Havent had the chance to print with it yet though. I'll post when I do.

Re: Nylon

I bought some Taulman, too.  No idea when it will arrive.

Re: Nylon

With a day off school tomororow, I'll be printing a few things out before switching back to ABS for a bit.  I'll print some of the flexible collection if anyone has any suggestions as to what.  Otherwise I'll be printing a bookmark, and trying a stretch bracelet again.

Good Taulman 618 discussion going on over here:

Re: Nylon

Ordered some Taulman just to give it a try. Will post here once I've done that.

Anyone printed with taulman yet?

Re: Nylon

Sadly I haven't had a chance yet to try out what I got here. However, Octave sent me a link to a video showing someone using nylon on a garolite plate. At the 6 min mark is where the guy shows the adhesion of the nylon to the garolite plate.

Re: Nylon

good video vince.. looks like I need to get some garolite now.

Re: Nylon

Got some Taulman 618. I decided to try printing on masonite and that has been working pretty well.

Very cool!

Care to share your other settings (temperatures and whatever else you had to tweak)?

Re: Nylon

any extruder issues depart?  My 3 rolls are burning a hole in the box. I want to load one up so bad but want to learn from others mistakes first. smile

Right now I am printing with the extruder temp set at 200.  Didn't have to tweak anything else.

At first I tried printing on the blue painters tape and that caused some serious warping so I abandoned that real quick.  The part in the picture is being printed at 100% infill.

Re: Nylon

How did you transition from PLA (or ABS) to Nylon: just push it through your extruder as you normally would?

Re: Nylon

The T618 will print at lower temps as well so I just inserted the filament and purged out the ABS. No problems whatsoever.

the flexibility is unreal.  I can bend the part in half and return it to its original shape.

Re: Nylon

Depart, who did you order your filament from? When I got mine it came in one of those clam shell plastic packages, (the kind you find weed wacker line packaged in). Would prefer to buy it already spooled rather than having to spool it myself.

Taulman just started making the 1.75 filament available on a spool so any future orders you should get the spool.

I ordered mine from SeeMeCNC.  I highly recommend them after my experience.  They answered all the questions I had and shipped my order very quickly (I needed it today and they had two-day shipping).
