Merci beaucoup

It all depends on what machine you get.  I have many and some take a lot of time, others just print when I need them.  There is no question that it takes time to learn what it takes to get good prints most of the time.  No machine is going to change that fact.  These are precision CNC machines not unlike any machine at a machine shop.  Those machines don't make good parts without someone knowledgeable with its operations.  If you really want a machine that works like a paper printer than 3D printers probably aren't for you.  If you're willing to learn and enjoy the occasional tinkering then give it a go.  Spend time researching different machines and ask a lot of questions.  We are here to help.

I read all I could find and joined a couple discussion groups and it was a year before I bought one. that was 6 years ago
Their is a lot of maintenance bot my current machine has over 2000 hours run time.  while you are printing you can not leave your printer. because they have been known to cause fires. That being said I have been hooked for 5 years. I have had to replace boards, Nozzles, print Beds, but the documentation and knowledge to fix it on this form makes trouble shooting a lot easier.

Lot of work is a relative subjective term.
Yes like a bicycle or many other mechanical items a 3d printer require st up and tuning out of the box and periodic maintenance .
There is a steeper learning curve there are many settings to learn in the slicer aka cam software and the host Aka cnc software and if you get deep the setting in firmware.
Once it is set up and running IMHo not a lot of work but again more than most 2d printers and 3d printers are relatively slow as you are printing hundreds of layers to get a 3d print.
You need to be prepared to do your own repairs as as far as I know there are so service centers and most factory service is slow at best if you can get any.

3D printers are not "Plug & Play" by any stretch - I don't care what a manufacturer claims.

They are more complicated to operate and do require some basic maintenance periodically, but beyond initial setup, I would not say that it takes a "lot" of time to take care of one - altho, the particular model you get will have some bearing on the maintenance...

Research is your friend - read through forums like this one, independent reviews, YouTube videos, etc... get an overview of what you can expect from 3d printing in general, and a specific model you are interested in.

As someone else said - if you are not one that likes to tinker, then this may not be a good hobby for you to get into. If you are a tinkerer, however, it can be a very satisfying hobby.
