Topic: New Davinci mini hackable?

Hi all,

I have bought my son a davinci mini wifi for Christmas, I haven't opened the box yet but have an NFC device.  Will i be able to refil the spools with 1.75mm pla and reset the spool once I have the password? Or will it be likely that it will have a newer fw and not be possible?

Thanks for any help

Dan

Re: New Davinci mini hackable?

As far as i know, noone with a mini has been able to reset the nfc chip without getting a spool error. There are various people which already tried it and seeked help after getting said error. You can read the last pages on this topic for that: http://www.soliforum.com/topic/15817/da … s/page/13/

Re: New Davinci mini hackable?

I've got a mini and (at least with the latest firmwares) it is not enough to change the serial number of the spool like you can on older firmwares for the Da Vinci Jr. It seems that you would need to change the UID and to do that we need the algorithm for the password and password acknowledge (PACK). Well, passwords can be found out by those with the right tools but the PACK cannot.

So the answer is no, although I cannot say for sure, maybe you can if you do not upgrade the firmware. I don't think I've seen anyone who tried a Mini with older firmware.

Thanks for the help.

I think I will keep it on a lower FW(if it comes on one) and give it a go.

Would be nice to be able to use cheaper filament.

Re: New Davinci mini hackable?

My mini came with the 1.0.6 Firmware and still is on it, kallt_kaffe yours is on which version? I still have to try with my nfc tag if it works on 1.0.6. Will do it hopefully this evening.

I am currently working on a programm which (hopefully) allows to downgrade the firmware (mini and jr), using original code from xyz ware. But do not expect a release in the coming month. Progress is pretty slow, because i have not that much time for it and the code from xyz is pretty bad.

I was on 1.1.2 after initial upgrade when I got my printer and it did not accept changed hacked chip. It reads the chip fine but when trying to print it complains and the LED on the printer goes angry red.

I'm now on 1.1.4 which is the latest since the 12th of December and it also (not surprisingly) does not accept and modified NFC-tag.

Folks, you may want to take a look at http://www.soliforum.com/post/129481/#p129481.

He was able to use a hacked chip on the JR with upgraded firmware. Sure surprise me.

That's interesting, in the next post he mentions that if the chip reaches 0m it cannot be reused. I've only tried modifying a chip that had reached 0m. I have not tried to reset a partially used roll. All my current 8 rolls of filament have 150-190m left on them so I'm not sure I want to mess with them until they got a bit less filament left on them.

If you get one down close to 100m try and set it back to 200m or whatever you are setting yours to. I have been using one tag on 4 rolls of filament now without any issues. I just play with page nine until I get it working. I have a JR fw 2.2.4. I keep my tag between 300m and 100m all of the time. It does appear whenever I unload filament I have to up the last number on page nine.

I also have the mini and I have kept the printer firmware at 1.0.0 and running software version 2.1.15.1.  I have the same problem I can make the changes to the NFC tag and everything seems fine until I hit print, then it says object transmitting, the status bar goes across the screen, then the printer beeps 5 times and then the LED also goes red.

Was the chip that you modified on 0m before you modified it?

What happens when you write the original values back?

No, it had 15 meters left when I started.

I have tried that a couple of times, everything seems fine when I go through all the menus. I set it to 100 meters remaining, 90 meters remaining, I even changed it back to 15 meters remaining, I have tried changing page 09 by 1, I have tried changing the color on page 08. But as soon as I hit print  the status bar goes across the screen, then the printer beeps 5 times and then the LED goes red.

Re: New Davinci mini hackable?

So has anyone tried to reset a chip yet on a mini W 1.0.6. got ours yesterday and its on 1.0.6. once the filament had run down a bit more ill give it a go.

Re: New Davinci mini hackable?

Hey guys i can finally tell you that it does not work on the 1.0.6 Firmware on the mini.
The result of my thest matches the result of the 1.0.0 Firmware. So it is now safe to say that the mini was locked down from the very beginning. Firmware downgrade will not help the mini users.

Not that downgrade will help but anyway. Noticed a interesting thing with my Mini.

If I hold down the button/led while turning on the power the led turns white after a while and then I release the button. The led remains white and if I connect it to my computer with USB-cable it shows up with firmware version 1.0.1 and a serialnumber that is mostly zeroes.

Xyzware prompts me to upgrade firmware which I can do but it does not exit the white-led mod and still identifies as 1.0.1 after upgrade. When I then powercycle the printer it goes back to firmware 1.1.4 and the real serialnumber and (sadly) still remembers my blocked NFC-card.

I wouldn't be surprised if this "recover mode" would allow for a firmware downgrade by replacing the firmwarelatest.bin file and do an upgrade but since downgrading won't help us I haven't tried.

Not sure if this is any help, I was hoping that it would reboot as factory reset with an empty blacklist but sadly it did not. Tried it twice. Once with the MacOS version of XYZware and once with the windows version.

However, I've got a feeling that this is some kind of recovery firmware that can be used to restore firmware on bricked printers after failed firmware upgrades.
