Topic: Direct Y Drive Kit For Solidoodle

I received my order from printit industries  today! I got the bearings pressed in, using a socket & C-clamp(Worked Great). Now mounting the bracket for the Direct Y drive. Do you use the original Cap screws from where the motor was mounted & screw them in from the outside to keep the stepper motor from splitting?  Then use the supplied 8 screws to mount the bracket to the case,  and the motor to the bracket? Then have 4 spare nuts?

Hello Hammade!
The screws used to mount the printed part to the frame will use a 12-16mm length M3.
Your stock screws (45mmxM3) can be used to mount the motor, but you will need to compress the backing plate of the Nema. The threads of the motor are closest to the face (where the shaft protrudes and couples to your Y Rod) and can be mounted in a variety of ways, but the recommended method is to cannibalize your older screws and screw them from the outside (rear of motor) inward to anchor the backplate, then 10-16mmxM3 screws from the inside out the mount opening out toward the faceplate where the threads are closest.

Thank You Wardjr! As of right now i have it mocked up with the original motor mount screws through the back of the motor holding it together, then used 4 screws &nuts out of the 8 that  came with the kit to hold the motor to the bracket as seen in picture.? Is seems functional...but is it right?

Thank You Azerate! It Seems rather secure how i have it mounted, Im going to go with it, this printer has had to much down time. My next upgrade is to install the Calidum HALE heating element that i ordered with the Y direct drive kit!

There is no real right or wrong.  I'd do it completely different from the next guy.  As long as it works, that's what counts.  On many other applications I tend to use two diagonal holes from the back towards the front.  This holds the motor together.  Then I use the opposite diagonal holes on the front (shaft end) to mount the motor to whatever mount I'm using.  Like I said as long as it works then don't sweat it.
