Topic: X axis stopped working.

I believe this is the older style motherboard. Bought it as a spare, but I'd like to fix it up. The x axis won't move, everything else functions. Swapping in a new board would be easy or a pain?

That's a good ol' Sang!
If you swapped out the board, it can be very easy depending on the board you buy. I personally recommend the Rumba or Duet.
If you don't want to experiment with it, I would be happy to buy it off of you. But it sounds like your X stepper driver needs to be replaced or is shorted somewhere.

Re: X axis stopped working.

In am effort to keep all my printers using the same hardware (motherboard) do they still sell the oem printerboard  used on the solidoodle 3's? If I upgraded to that, at least all my boards for the time being would be the same to keep things simple?

Re: X axis stopped working.

Start by swapping a driver from another axis.  They pull off the board fairly easily.  If the x axis still doesn't move try plugging a different axis motor into the x axis driver and see if when telling x to move that other motor moves.  This will tell you what part has failed.  Each is simple to replace and much more likely to be the problem.  The board itself is probably just fine.
If you need help figuring out how to pull a driver from the board, let us know.  If I had pictures available I'd post them but it wouldn't be difficult to get some.

Re: X axis stopped working.

Make sure your power is off when you swap those drivers and plugs.  The danger of damage to the drivers or your controller is very real.

Re: X axis stopped working.

Which drivers does this use? The ones on ebay look slightly different. Unsure if they electrically are the same just newer components? Pic attached drivers tomorrow.

Re: X axis stopped working.

Thanks, I ordered 1 for now to see if thats the problem. Should these be plug and play, or will I need to flash/update them with certain firmware? Worst case, Ill just upgrade the whole board if I cant get it.

Re: X axis stopped working.

Plug and play, just be sure to match up the GND pins so it's not ass backwards.  Then you will need to adjust VREF once it's working.

Re: X axis stopped working.

Possibly check the pairing of the wires for your x motor.  Basically there are 4 wires and they need to be properly paired AA BB.  I have seen brand new motors paired incorrectly.  When touching the two wires of a pair together the motor should become difficult to turn.  Test this with the motor disconnected.

The plug on the motor wiring at the board should have 4 sockets in a row. Unplug it and use a paper clip bent in a U to short the first 2 and then last 2 sockets together on each end of the plug.  Each time should result in the motor being difficult to turn compared to not shorted.
