HaHa - No Tin - it was not a UFO. smile

I am VERY proud to say that the printer in the above picture is mine. I am one of the lucky few beta testers. And Yes, it is an awesome printer! The speeds it will run at, and print very well at, beats everything else I have, including the FT-5 which does pretty well in it's own right. The vase in the picture above took less than 2.5 hours - printed at Maker Faire, and it was not exactly warm in there.

Re: Printit Industries 8.10 printer

After the "We can not confirm or deny the existence of any such printer "  reply in the earlier thread I was wondering if we were going to see some sort of stealth printer /drone hybrid  LOL

A bit pricey for me ATM   does look like a solid machine a lot more solid and stable than the solidoodle.

Re: Printit Industries 8.10 printer

Makerfaire Milwaukee served as an opportunity in the form of a meet-n-greet and give people a sneak peak into what we were up to. While we were not ready for a digital announcement, we were bursting with excitement. It meant a lot that some caught that video and responded.

Even though I work for Printit Industries, I can say as a consumer that this is way more rigid and stable than anything Solidoodle dreamed of building. The rigidity of the 8.10 is the closest we have seen to being able to survive after dropped in a warzone. The Chicago UPS hub is notorious for that kind of treatment, and there is myself and Heartless that can back that up personally.
The board is equally as rigid. I have a firm reputation for destroying the first of each board I handle, and I have abused the Duet beyond any Rumba I have ever owned.

We plan on adding more pictures and time lapsed videos shortly. Thanks again for everyone's support and interest.

DIY kits have been discussed, but there are so many factors that play into building this machine, we feel we need to build a community before we explore this option. Individual parts have been discussed to a slightly longer context, so I would suggest contacting [email protected] to clarify what you mean by "individual components". smile

Nice machine but for me two grand is a bit steep for a single extruder model.  I realize the reason for the cost but since 3d printing is just a hobby for me my machines tend to stay below the $600 range.  The exception was my all metal CT'c dual that I paid $900 for.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!

and you get what you pay for, Carl. And I will admit, I used to feel the same way... Yeah, there are cheaper printers out there, but NOTHING can compare to what this machine offers.

The rigidity of the frame, the bed leveling system (pretty much a "set it once and forget it" system - no futzing around with it every time you turn around), the speed it can run at, the 32 bit controller board, the ease of connecting to it - and the options, right out of the box, for connecting to it. You can use USB, Network cable to a router, and the latest revision of the board now supports WiFi, so no cables even required!

Using the "web" interface to run the printer, you can use a computer, a tablet, even a smartphone to run print jobs and keep tabs on things... Or you can use Repetier Host if you prefer, or Simplify3D, or whatever you like - the options are pretty much wide open. (and no - you do NOT have to be connected to the internet to use the printer, just a home network router - the cheapest one Walmart offers works just fine.)

Firmware is super easy to load, or make adjustments to - as a beta tester, there were a couple of times something got tweaked & I was sent a new copy of the firmware to load - SUPER EASY to do! Or I was asked to tweak one setting or another to try out - again - super easy to do - especially when using the web interface.

going back to the speed -while testing, I tried out a print that took over 3.5 hours on my favorite SD4 (which is tweaked to near perfection) - on the 8.10, it took just over an hour. So I could easily have 3 prints completed on the 8.10 in the same time it takes to do ONE on the SD4.

The vase pictured above? that would have taken nearly the better part of a day on the SD4 - and it wouldn't be as tall, either, since the SD4 can only do a max of 200mm (if you are lucky).

so yeah, ok, you can stick with your cheap printers if you like, but I will gladly pay for a quality machine, and this one is definitely Quality - with a capitol Q!
With so many cheaply priced, and cheaply made, printers on the market, it is really nice to have one that is built to last, built to perform, and is easy to use - no constant headaches trying to get the bed level, no BS - just load a file, load the filament, heat it up and print. Rinse and repeat.

I guess since you did beta test you could be biased.  But my CT'c is the best I have had and I have had many.  Again speed is not an issue for me as it is a hobby.  I also have no issues with my bed.  I set it a few months ago when I put a mirror on it and have not had to adjust it again in 30 prints. I have run print jobs on it that ran 36 hours.  Yes you do get what you pay for most of the time.  But there are also some diamonds in the rough out there that just need a little cleaning.

Note my hot ends are upgraded to MK10's and I am also running a Pannucat Devices Azteeg X3 Pro controller and a Viki  II LCD so it is no longer stock.  So with upgrades I spent about $1100 and am very happy.  Again I feel this machine as you indicated is more for those who do this as a business and for income while I use mine for making project parts for my coilguns and laser projects.  For me it's a hobby and pass time so I have a budget they would be lower than a business owner.

I'm sure it is a very good machine simply based on company rep. But it is not for everyone and I still feel the price is steep for a single extruder machine. But that is simply my opinion and should bare no weight as a none business user.

I would like to point out at this time that none of our beta testers, Heartless included, have been paid a dime for their testimonials. There is no bias in this, she is speaking her mind from empiric observation.

The Azteeg was actually the first board we tried for this unit. While it had great reliability, it was hardly robust enough for what we were going for. The Duet is the easiest board to flash by far, even though it is more centered toward SD card and eathernet printing. The Azteeg is better for USB operations, but that's about it. Don't get me wrong, I liked the Azteeg, but it doesn't hold a candle to the Duet.

You might want to refrain from using Azteeg as a general name.  There are several of which I use. The X3 uses the same common processor and firmware as the Ramps (marlin and repetier).  The X5 however that is on my Delta is based on the Uno and uses smoothieware for firmware. Simply make edits to a text file on an SD card to make firmware changes. I would love to use it on my CT'c but it only supports 4 steppers where the X3 supports 5. Again I can't help but see this machine as a more purpose built unit with the owner in mind being a person relying on  3d printing for income.

Again only opinions and I also made no assumptions that testers where compensated or influenced by anything other than the machine. But again if you are fed steak for a while after only knowing spam,  then you are  going to praise steak and prefer it. That is just human nature.

I am just trying to point out that depending on who your target market is you may want to see if the price can be lowered or a Lite version can be made.  I don't think this unit will be  a hit on the general home user market at this price point.  I could be and have been wrong many times before though.

Biased? yeah, not really. My first SD4 is still my "favorite" (maybe I am a little biased towards that one? lol) and you want to talk about a diamond in the rough? that one definitely was... I probably have almost as much invested in it as you have in your CT'c, maybe more. New controller board, new power supply, new hotend, Lawsy carriages w/bearings, new smooth rods for those bearings to ride on, new heat bed... the list goes on... the only things left still stock are the frame, motors, and the Z axis. I don't generally need to mess with leveling the bed on this one anymore, either, I have it that well tuned & dialed in.

but back to the 8.10 - to put it bluntly, it would blow your CT'c away - with ZERO upgrades. It doesn't need any upgrades because all of the common upgrades are built into it right from the start.

The bed leveling system on the 8.10 is completely different than any other printer. There are NO springs in this thing. It is so stable that even after being carried down a flight of stairs, out to the car, a 4.5 hour drive over some rough highway, and being carted into the building over some rough terrain at the Milwaukee Maker Faire, it only had one corner ever so slightly out of adjustment - and it took less than 10 seconds to bring it back into level. It has 8 points of contact with the frame - that's right - EIGHT! Not 3 or 4 spring loaded points as most have, but Eight stable points.

I, personally, would hardly call a MK10 hotend an "upgrade", but, hey, there goes my bias again... tongue I despise that particular hotend/extruder design. Two of the 3 FolgerTech kits I bought had those and I absolutely hated them. One has been upgraded to an E3D Volcano with the Titan Extruder - the other one got sold.

And my particular beta tester came with an Azteeg X3 board initially - it was OK - worked fine, but the Duet is a whole new ballgame - kind of like going from a local team to the majors. It was very easy to install, and was super easy to get the firmware installed on it since it loads on a micro SD card. processing is soooo much faster and smoother with the Duet, and as I mentioned before, there are multiple methods of connecting to it - USB, Ethernet, WiFi... whatever makes you happy.

The only reason the 8.10 has not taken over as my "favorite" yet is the bowden feed, and that is mostly because I am not really used to it. I am so used to the SD4 direct drive it will take me a while to transition. (I don't use the kossel much for the same reason, but it is a neat machine, so I keep it around.)

But, yeah, you may be right - this printer just isn't for you. You just keep plugging along with your old, slow CT'c... I don't have the time, or the desire, to wait on 36 hour prints when the 8.10 could easily do the same print in half the time, if not less, and with the same, or better, quality of print. wink If you have the time to wait on those painfully long prints, great for you. I don't. My printing time is limited to evenings and weekends. I do not allow the printers to run unattended here - EVER. We live way out in the country, in a 100 plus year old house - a fire here could be disastrous for us.

And just to be clear, yes, I do try to make a few bucks with my printers - mostly to allow me to buy more filament... but I am in no way making a living at it, I still have to hold down a regular job, and I do have a very tight budget to live on. The area I live in is just not a very good market for 3d printing (too rural and backwards to put it bluntly - the area is about 4-5 years behind the rest of the country in technology). But after seeing this thing in action, and the quality it produces right out of the box, I would be saving up to buy one if I didn't already have this beta unit.

but to each their own, I guess.

Oh, and no, I have not received a dime for any of this, or anything else I have said in regards to PrintIt Industries. The ONLY thing I have received is the beta tester printer. Am I lucky for having been chosen as a beta tester? Yes, I am. Very lucky (although initially I had misgivings about it, they were quickly put to rest once I got it up and running). big_smile Why I was chosen? I have no clue, but I am grateful I was - this thing rocks!

This is the first time I've seen this printer.  Is that Z height threaded screw supposed to be unsupported?

Re: Printit Industries 8.10 printer

First of all thank you to all at print it for all the hard work  in developing a new printer. . I have done some R & D work. You are having to write the manual as you go there are no instructions yes some for components b ut not a compiled one.
Apples and oranges apples and IBMs . Pricey or not  as I said above my budget for now. twice the price of the SD4 that was priced at $ 999 but less than a $ 2500 Ultimaker.
For serious users speed is important. And time is important time wasted making adjusments at the beginning of every print or losing prints because something moved is costly.
Carl do not get me wrong  if hobby money is at a premium and you enjoy tinkering an don't not mind a print taking hours not a problem  but it is all a personal decision  to make.
Again thanks to printit for offering a new solid printer option.

yes, it is unsupported at the top. it is attached to the motor at the bottom. And no, there is no Z wobble due to the way the bed is mounted in the frame. The bed rides against all four corner frame members, and is very smooth in its movements.

Regarding dual extrusion, this is something we've been discussing for some time. We will be coming out with a unit featuring dual extrusion, but whether it will be a different model or an upgrade kit has yet to be determined.
