Topic: Coex3D filaments

so while at the Milwaukee Maker Faire we got our hands on some samples from Wisconsin based Coex3D - really nice folks, too.

In all I got 5 different colors in ABS - I think Azerate got 6, one of them being PLA...

as with any new filament, I broke out the calipers and started measuring to get average diameters...

Black = 1.77mm average
Grey = 1.79mm average
Pink = 1.80mm average
Red = 1.82mm average
Turquoise = 1.77mm average

All a little on the large side for a 1.75mm filament

loaded up the black and did my usual calibration cubes, no problems, got it dialed in pretty well and did a test print of the Companion Cube w/flat bottom that can be found on thingiverse. The resulting print looks quite nice.

a comparison with one done in Octave green...

so I am currently running a print that I plan to use all 5 colors on to get an idea of how well each prints. That print is an Advanced Marvin at double scale. Just finished swapping out to the 3rd color and so far so good.
will post a picture when completed.

the red is a bit too on the orange side - the color could be better, but it seems to be printing well enough
the pink is a nice shade - Bazooka bubble gum pink is what i would call it - that is what it reminds me of, anyway.

Re: Coex3D filaments

That's awesome quality even for the inconsistent diameter between colors. Blobbing and overhangs seem to be under control when increasing the scale, so it seems thermally stable with controlled moisture in the samples.

I still haven't been able to test, but I am very anxious, so I will post here. Thanks for starting a thread.

Re: Coex3D filaments

overall I am quite pleased with the testing results. It prints quite consistently across all 5 colors

I did make a goof when I went to load the last color - accidentally hit the kill button instead of pause (oops) and then knocked the print loose from the bed. sad
got out my trusty glue stick, stuck it back down, a little bit off, but close enough and then found the correct layer in g-code and deleted everything prior to that layer... and restarted the print. It worked - sort of... LOL the previous layer had cooled too much for good adhesion, plus the model was slightly off from its original position, but all things considered, it isnt too terrible...

When I set up to do this, i averaged the 5 diameters and picked the filament closest to that number for slicing purposes - not ideal, but it worked pretty well considering. Printed on my SD4 #1.

all settings remained the same throughout the print including temps - hotend was at 236C, bed at 90C
Layer height: 0.2963
Perimeters: 3
top & bottom layers: 3
infill 10%
print speed: 40mm/s
and no layer fan...

I think the grey could have been run a little cooler, might have done a better job of bridging if it had been (eye sockets).
The pink bridged pretty well at that temp (bottom of body between legs), but again, might have benefited from a slightly lower temp.
