Topic: MakerJuice resins with Form 1+ total failure

I bought a bottle of MakerJuice SF grey about 3 months ago, and yesterday I decided to give it a try. I installed a brand vat, and filled it about half way with the MakerJuice, after shaking the bottle really well for about 30 seconds.

The first print attempt was a complete failure. The only thing that printed was the base, and the supports, up to about where the model was supposed to start. The base was also very brittle. The setting I use for this first test was Grey FLGPGR01.

Of course there was a nice blob of cured resin at the bottom of the vat, and while removing it I noticed pigment streaks in the resin, so I spent about 5 minutes re-mixing the resin in the vat, using the spatula, until it looked nice and even, then tried the same print again. I set the resin setting to FLGPGR02 this time, and hit start.

This time, the model printed all the way, except it's still a failure. Some of the parts are cracked, others are separated, and others printed like a blob. The plastic is very brittle, an the surface has a gritty feel to it.

Here are a couple of images showing the grey print, next to the same model printed using some old expired F100G resin.

Re: MakerJuice resins with Form 1+ total failure

The clear stuff from Formlabs was the best stuff I ever used. The prints came out wonderful. The only problem I found with all the resins made for SLA is they all seem to be much more brittle than the FFD stuff. That was my main reason for selling mine and going back to my original CTC.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!

Re: MakerJuice resins with Form 1+ total failure

Well, I previously used the original Grey (F100G), as well as Grey 2 (FLGPGR02), and had no problems.  The Makerjuice resin though, is really too much of a headache.

So a few people on the FormLabs suggested I shake the bottle for 10 minutes prior to pouring into the vat, which I thought was ridiculously excessive, but what the hell...

...So I cleaned the vat, mixed the resin for a good long time (not for 10, but at least 5 minutes).  Poured it into the vat, then spent the next 5 minutes mixing it in to remove most of the bubbles, until it was nice and smooth without pigment streaks or air bubbles.

Loaded my model, which I hollowed out to 1.25mm, generated the supports and clicked PRINT. A little over an hour later I was greeted by this beauty.

Needless to say, I'm done with this stuff.  You do indeed get what you pay for, and this MakerJuice resin, while 1/2 the price of FormLabs, doesn't work for me at all.

Re: MakerJuice resins with Form 1+ total failure

We never tried Makerjuice but I understood from some people who use it that the vat needs to be replaced more often. They have good results with grey Makerjuice.

We have had best results with Clear resin from Formlabs. Grey was always a trouble maker.... until we noticed they were sending us almost expired resin... smile
