Topic: Gluing PLA

I need to glue some PLA bits together and I can't find anything that will make it stick together. The crazy glue we get in Canada now doesn't seem to touch it. I have tried epoxy, model plastic cement, lacquer thinners, and JB weld. The JB sort of works, but not what I want.

Any suggestions?

Re: Gluing PLA

I have used this stuff with PLA a few times. The parts I glued are still firmly stuck together.

Re: Gluing PLA

I have used the gel type super glue with good success. it does take a little longer to set up but seems to work well

Re: Gluing PLA

We have found that using a glue that has some flex in it when cured always works well. Something like epoxy has no flex and therefore can crack and break.

Most contact adhesives have a certain amount of flexibility in them when cured but a great one is UHU Por.

I hope this helps

Re: Gluing PLA

Thanks 3Dex. The UHU products are great, but unfortunately most of them are not available to me in Canada. Our government does not like us to have too many products that actually work! We have to go with all the environmentally friendly stuff that is mostly junk. Even the super glue that we get here only really works on fingers!!

Edit In ...
OOOps ... Gotta eat some words here. After a light sanding, Gorilla Gel Super Glue does the trick. I can't get the parts apart without breaking them.
