Topic: Z-axis Vibration

I've had a problem recently where the bed is vibrating extremely bad when the bed is moving down. I'm using a Solidoodle Workbench, unmodified, and I've yet to find a similar problem on the forums. If anyone has any idea of what could be the case, help would be greatly appreciated.

Solidoodle 4, no modifications (yet!)

Re: Z-axis Vibration

If the threads of the z-rod aren't chattering than you need to lube the guide rods.  If that doesn't do it look into the VREF for that motor.  It difficult to tell the source of the chatter from the video.

Re: Z-axis Vibration

Solidoodle seizure?   Wtf?   Ward is right.  Lube lube lube.  I use white lithium grease.  Lowes and home crappo both sell it.  If that dosent work ......... i would check to see if anything is suspiciously loose.  Good luck.

Overkill is underrated!!!

Re: Z-axis Vibration

I wonder what kind of print it would produce ..?

Question for you,
If you unscrew the 4 screw that hold the build platform to the infinite screw of your Z axis, does the platform "slide" downs due to its own weight?

Good luck with your solid seizure

Re: Z-axis Vibration

BobMcBobGuy,

are do you using a spray or something like this on the bed? I have the same problem when I do use spray . I think that the problem is for this, because the product is on the z screw or on other parts . you can later to put lube on this parts and will see to get better on this.

Re: Z-axis Vibration

If lube does not work try changing the speed. It may be at a resonance frequency.

Re: Z-axis Vibration

I had the same happen to me as well. I did all the above suggestions to no avail. I noticed that the platform for the bed was wonky front left was lower than the rest.  I attempted to "assist it in the other direction and noticed play in the rivits of the assembly. So I went to home depot and found screws and nuts that would make it a very tight fit. While I had the whole carrage assembly apart I also noticed that the barrings were rotatable with in the "holder". Before I reassembled every thing I made sure the barrings were straight and even. Once everything was put back together there was no chatter while going down nor up and the bed platter was closer to being level as well. Give it a go!

Re: Z-axis Vibration

Hi, I have an issue also, I read this post, I unscrew the z axis rod, but the bed is not going down by its weight (in the upper part of the rod), but from the middle of the height and below it does.  Any suggestion to fix?  thanks,

Re: Z-axis Vibration

Try lube on the guide rods.  You might try rotating the guide rods to see if one is bent.
