Topic: PLA troubles - strange

I am running a SD3 with E3D v6.  I bought some Night Glow PLA from Maker Filament.

I've been running ABS for a while and I'm just starting to run PLA with my e3d.  note, I completely disassembled and cleaned the nozzle prior to running PLA

195 on the nozzle
70 on the glass bed with aquanet.

After about an hour, the stepper starts grinding filament.  I kill the print, hold the temp and try to push a bit while manually advancing the extruder stepper - no joy

BUT if I retract 10 mm and then go forward again, the material runs smooth and easy.

ideas?

Joe

Is your ED 3 getting proper cooling the fins could be cool to the touch not warm
sound like the PLA may be getting to soft to grab. What extruder are you using . ?

Re: PLA troubles - strange

I'm running the little fan that came with the e3d.  Plus my sd3 has no walls as of yet.  in fact, I'm wondering what will happen when I make the temp warm in the cabinet with plexiglass.  I've got the plexi and the brakets...just haven't installed yet.

what is a good target temp to shoot for in the cabinet and how to control?  I assume that the cabinet temp might be variable wrt to the filament being used.

I just ran the nozzle to 255 and pushed out a bunch of clear PLA...I saw to black ABS come out.  Plus I feel pretty good about the cleaning I did prior to changing.   Acetone, 1/16 drill bit and a super tiny drill bit for the tip.  all work done with hand only.  no power tools
